Dash Electronics FLIPPING OUT on Our Jeep Gladiator

My 392 did this exact thing as your gladiator when it fried the alternator and starter, but you already checked in the video what caused my issue. That dang ground behind the passenger front tire! Hopefully you figure it out soon! It literally did the exact same thing!

So, I may have made some progress today!!! Checking over all the wiring close to the passenger side rear corner, a lot of it was just sitting on top of the new gas tank and left to bounce around. I took a lot of time rolling them over to see if I could find any chafing and while I didn't, I did notice imprints/indents in the harness in a few places where they were making contact with the tank and or the cross member. After seeing this, I tried pushing what I could out of the way and then went for a test drive...

What I can tell you is right off the bat, EVERYTHING worked great. No errors, lights worked and I should note, for a very long time. On the way home, I did go over a stretch of road that is rough and bumpy and after about half a mile of this, I finally got a passenger side rear turn signal unavailable message.

Needless to say, I think my problem is somewhere around here and I'm getting close (y)
that's awesome!
hopefully in those indented areas, the wires were not crimped enough to cause a break under the wrapping.

So.... I definitely got it!!!!!! 🎉

I should note, the very first thing to go was the passenger side rear turn signal and at first, it seldomly occurred and at what felt like random times.

Next to go was the blind spot unavailable and that first started to kick off bombing over really rough desert terrain. After that, it seemed to trigger randomly as well but almost always after hitting a bump.

The center stack buttons (blinking on and off) went next and I really couldn't tell you if that was related to the original problem or if it was coincidental but I tend to think it was related being that things like parking assist and blind spot controls are managed through it and Infotainment system. I get the impression that the tail light and blind spot sensor grounding out was sending a shock to the system and that jacked things up.

Now, what was most likely totally unrelated was all the other errors I was getting and the Infotainment system totally freaking out. After I got the center stack light blinking things, I took a deep dive and looked for the problem in earnest. In doing so, I completely disconnected both the main and auxiliary battery and for an extended period of time. Of course, doing this can really jack things up and it can take at least 24 hours to clear up or more and I think that's all I was seeing when I originally filmed everything going haywire.

So, what was the problem?

Well let's start with what it wasn't. It wasn't any of the grounds as I quadruple checked them, cleaned them and made sure they were on tight.

It wasn't the CANBUS. Sure seemed like the right thing at the time but I have since learned that I replaced the wrong one anyway. The green one on the left controls outside stuff. The white one on the right, the star connector, that would have been the one I should have replaced if anything.

And, in spite of all what all the super smart people who gobble up all the koolaid on the internet and insist how right they are, what it definitely wasn't, was the auxiliary battery. As mentioned, I am not so full of myself to not give everything a try when looking for a problem and one of the things that I did was to temporarily delete mine. Of course, this did NOTHING to fix my problem. While a dying or low voltage auxiliary battery can produce problems like this, my battery was new and clearly, not the issue.

As far as the Tazer goes, I thought it might be the problem and it may or may not have helped things but removing it, updating it and then reinstalling it definitely cleared the system and at the very least, it did bring me back to a point where things were "mostly" better again.

The one problem I just couldn't fix was the passenger side rear turn signal and as mentioned, I spent some time today tracing wires and focusing my attention in that corner. Of course, this is a highly modified area thanks to the aftermarket EVO gas tank and an even harder one to give a good look at. Here's what I was up against.

As you can see here, the wiring from the tail light goes long the frame rail and then tucks in and disappears behind it.

It took some effort to see and get to but after playing around with the wires I could reach and could clearly feel was just loosely sitting on top of the gas tank, I went for a drive and as I posted up earlier, things were notably better. While the problem did come back, it took a LOT longer before it happened.

With that knowledge in hand, I worked a lot harder to gather the loose wiring and zip tied it together and in place so that it wouldn't jiggle and or bounce around.

And, after going on a very long drive and purposefully driving over rough sections of road that would have totally triggered the turn signal and blind spot unavailable error... NOTHING happened!!!! This was clearly the source of my problem!!!

Now, I would be the first to say that nothing is actually fixed as that would require me unraveling the wiring tape, locating the damaged wire and repairing it. Of course, all of that would be extremely difficult to do or at least, without dropping the gas tank. And, that is something I will most likely have to do in the future but for now, on the heels of heading south to the NYKOR, I think this band aid will be good enough for me and for now :)

Anyway, just thought I would share and to thank everyone for all your tips and suggestions and overall support. You guys were a big help :)

You should just delete the gas tank.

Wooohooo! Congrats! Glad it’s “fixed” so you don’t have to drive your 392. 😂
