The Slimer Build Thread

Prime8, how do you like your LOD sliders? Strongly considering these for my rig. Any pics?

Sorry, I missed your message alert! I love the LoD sliders. Eddie recommended them for me. My original choices were the EVOs, shrockworks, or poison spyder rocker knockers. After talking to Eddie though, and reading reviews online, I went with the LoDs. I wanted bolt on which ruled out EVO. I heard that the PSC ones can bend against the body and pin the door closed. And the shrockworks had great quality reviews but horrible wait-time issues. I also needed a step for the wife. So the LoD were the perfect solution. They are super beefy and provide a great step, while still being fairly low profile. The step comes in handy when messing with the soft top or washing the hardtop. The only downside is that, because they do stick out a few inches, it's easy to drag your pant leg down the sliders when getting out. So if it is wet or muddy, it gets on your pants. If you are cognizant of this you can avoid it though. I'd definitely recommend them, especially if you need a step. There is a great install write up on Project JK for them.

I really like them, saw them in person a couple weeks ago and really feel they will work good for my application. Just wanted to here some input from a happy customer. Thanks!

Your Jeep looks great by the way. The EVO tire carrier looks great on that color.

Thanks brother! My 3 year old son had to get in on the action too. This is at the gym this morning. When we came out and he saw how "unique" my park job was, he said "dad, you're crazy"

Cute kid Prime8, kids and jeeps are meant to go together. :thumb:

Is the jeep parked behind you running windowless with snow on the ground?

Haha, yes it is. It was decked out in poison spyder everything. Looked good, but rusted pretty bad. Definitely wasn't a DD. I was hoping he'd leave a note on my windshield, but no dice.

Had Jackson's third bday party today. He still likes dinosaurs more than jeeps, but he'll come around... And yes, that is a 3lb, completely edible, gummy snake.

Prime8 are you running IPF headlights ? How do you like them?

Yes I am. They are a huge improvement over stock. I couldn't bring myself to pay $500+ for the truck lite LEDs, so I got these for $150 and put the rest of my money into other mods. I'd definitely recommend them, although I've never compared them to the truck lites. I just can't imagine they are 3-4 times better than the IPFs, but if someone else could chime in who has used both I'd love to hear a comparison.

Got my old Rock Krawler tie rod and Fox SS shock installed today. It's been sitting on a shelf in my garage since I pulled it off the last rig...

Need some advice from all of you Wayalifers out there.

I have been weighing the options for rear tow points and I think I've narrowed it down to two choices (well, maybe three if you count EVOs new rear bumper that hasn't been released yet...)
The EVO frame mounted shackle tabs or the PSC minimalist rear bumper. The PSC is more expensive, requires removing the tow hitch, and requires cutting up the frame. The shackle tabs are cheaper but I could still get ticketed for no bumpers. These are the thoughts I've had on the matter. Any other pros or cons that anyone out there can think of? Any advice or first hand experience would be greatly appreciated!

I've with you on this decision for the same reasons. The Psc and also jcr both require cutting which is making me hesitant, jcr does have a stubby version however that doesn't require cutting and looks decent and is also cheap I think. I was just going to do the evo tabs but I would be running the risk of tickets like you would be.

Having a tow hitch is important to me...but that's a personal choice. For that reason though, I would only look at options that allowed me to keep my hitch. I'll be honest that for a very long time I wasn't a fan of the no bumper look but it's starting to grow on me. So, only considering the options you listed, I wouldn't go with the PSC bumper because I wouldn't want to give up the ability to tow a small trailer. Step two is deciding whether to go without a bumper. That's a tough one, and I'm still not sure what I would do. IF I decided to run a bumper, I would get one with a hitch or that retained the OEM hitch.

So do you have other possibilities that I should consider that weren't listed? I'm all ears! I am with you on the tow hitch. I paid extra for the damn thing, I'm not taking it off... Haha

You mentioned the new EVO. You could also run any number of quality rear bumpers without their tire carriers: LoD, Shrockworks (the wait time sucks on these, but they are nice IMHO), etc. The hard part with the full size bumpers is that you are spending a boatload more money for just a bumper because you already have a sweet carrier. Also, you lose a lot of the weight savings and departure angle you gained by going with the EVO carrier/skin combo over a full bumper/carrier combo. Like I said, tough call.

Basically, my advice is pretty useless here. :cheesy: I'd probably run without a bumper for a little while and really compare the pros and cons of the various options. Cutting out the crossmember doesn't really concern me. Any quality bumper that takes its place should be as strong if not stronger.
