The Slimer Build Thread

You mentioned the new EVO. You could also run any number of quality rear bumpers without their tire carriers: LoD, Shrockworks (the wait time sucks on these, but they are nice IMHO), etc. The hard part with the full size bumpers is that you are spending a boatload more money for just a bumper because you already have a sweet carrier. Also, you lose a lot of the weight savings and departure angle you gained by going with the EVO carrier/skin combo over a full bumper/carrier combo. Like I said, tough call.

Basically, my advice is pretty useless here. :cheesy: I'd probably run without a bumper for a little while and really compare the pros and cons of the various options. Cutting out the crossmember doesn't really concern me. Any quality bumper that takes its place should be as strong if not stronger.

Yeah, I was trying to keep it light and maintain a good departure angle. I like shrockworks stuff. Looked into them for bumpers and sliders, but I was turned off by all the horror stories on wait time.

Go with EVO d rings. Bend some metal in between the frame rails so it looks like a solid piece of metal back there. Mount 4 2" round white LEDs into the front of the metal and your reverse light issue is solved as well. I think someone posted up something similar a while ago. That's what I'll do in I get grief over the current set up.

Haha, that was totally my plan about a month or two ago, until I talked to Chris... He said EVO was working on a reverse light solution and it would be released soon. But it's been awhile and I'm getting impatient! It's hard to see out the rear window, so I'd at least like to have the lights to give people a fair warning to duck and cover! Haha.

What about a custom job? Basically like a wider version of the EVO quarterpounder but for the rear? Have it flush from the outside of one frame rail to the other, with a cutout at the bottom for the hitch. Not sure if I'm explaining myself well, but I have it pictured in my head. Almost like what the stock front bumper looks like when it is totally stripped and the ends are chopped.

I gotcha, I gotcha. Something that slides over the frame rails, keeping it stubby. I wonder if a quarter pounder could just be mounted back there... Haha. Drill some holes in the top and side, instead of the front, and bolt it onto the frame rails. You could mount a stinger on it and really confuse people... Haha

Lol! Stinger and carrier? There goes the weight savings. I think we are on the same page though. If you planned it right, you could use the EVO d-ring mounts. They could stick out through the bumper and everything could use the same bolts. Actually, with a little planning this could be a pretty sweet setup.

Went out with about an hours time to tighten up my spyderlocks and look around the vehicle. I came upon two issues...
Firstly, my rear LCAs. I have the double d long arm kit, that the dealer installed. Should I flip the rear arms around since the zerk and tightening bolt are hanging off the bottom side currently? I know it will make greasing harder, as I'll have to unbolt the LCA to get to the zerk, but I can't help but think they will get sheared off of damaged like this...

The next issue is the stinger on my 1/4 Pounder front bumper. Anyone else have shackle clearance issues with their stinger? Chris at EVO said to just hammer it down so it fits, but I hammered quite a bit today and the shackle BARELY threaded all the way on on the drivers side. The passenger side went in fine, but neither of them sit straight as they are pressing on the Stinger.

I really don't want to damage it any more than I have to (really don't want to have to damage it at all). Denting it flaws its structural integrity and it killed me to hammer on it...

ya i know what you mean, that is why i suggested heating it up a little. although not sure that is any better than beating on it.

And after opening the carrier, I saw this!!! Damn salt !!! Are these joints salvageable? They have only been on my rig for like 2-3 months!!!!ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1363472482.154254.jpg

Man that sucks. I was wondering about that when I installed mine. That inner sleeve looks like bare metal.

man that sucks! you should be able to bill the state for damaging your vehicle.

I said the same thing to my wife. Flagstaff, AZ uses cinders on the road and they work great without corrosion. It seems that someone would have thought of something smarter than salt by now...
