The Slimer Build Thread

Sorry, I didn't realize saving $400* was your priority on your $40K+ jeep build.

Therefore, I'll offer the following free of charge. :cheesy:

I have an ARB compressor and do not have the PowerPlant, but I wish I did. The PowerPlant fills tires faster than the single ARB compressor, I also find it annoying to take time to open up the hood every time I want to use the compressor (on the trail and other places), sometimes it is hot as hell in the engine compartment when you are done wheeling and especially after airing up (the compressor gets very hot)...IMHO it would be much nicer to just plug into your compressor outside of your jeep. Plus, I'm not sure the price comparison is exactly comparable because I do not know that the performance of the Zeon and the PowerPlant are the same...I haven't researched it...because I don't care.

But if you want to save even more money, go by a Smittybuilt winch. I have friends that run them, have winched several vehicles with them, and they worked great! :thumb:

*I added $50 for the ARB compressor mount you'll need, but not the additional time and supplies needed to wire it up. :thumb:

Take it easy buddy! Thanks for the advice, though.

My thought is why waste $400 when there are other mods I want/need before JKX? Just because the jeep is expensive doesn't mean I can just throw money around willy-nilly. $400 is $400, regardless of vehicle price, and there is no use spending it if I don't have to. I searched Craigslist hoping to find a used PowerPlant, without luck.

:cheesy: I agree with this though.

I think there is one on JKF for like $1,000. Look there.

And I can tell you that the powerplant will fill tires fast. Eddie can fill his 40's in about the time it takes me to fill my stockers. His takes a little longer but when I get 35's he will defiantly be done faster then me with my compressor. Get the powerplant. I will eventually when I have an extra $1,500 to spend.

The VR series is a cheaper line for warn. I'm not sure what differences the VR has but it's cheaper for a reason.

I don't know anything about the zeon. Sorry.

I do have one of the first power plants out from late 2006. It's always worked great and is very reliable. Warn has great customer service. I'll never own another brand winch.

Oh, I'm taking it easy. Trust me. ;) And you're welcome. :yup:

For me personally, I do not think it is a waste of $400 for the reasons I posted above and probably some others. But if you're looking to save money to put to other needs, there are less expensive options out there than the ones you listed. :thumb:

The Killer thing on the power plant is that it has its own tank. If you add air compressor, tank, switches, hose and fittings you will probably be around 500 plus dollars. I was going with the power plant until I got a smoking deal on my 9.5ti. Now i'm adding on board air to my rig. I want to be able to run air tools (somewhat) off the system, hence the tank. also with at tank you can have most the air ready for you when you get off the trail.

Got the ARB front diff cover installed today, and filled up with Royal Purple (Nurple) synthetic 75-140. Thanks to Dave Chew for a smoking deal on this diff cover!ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1359239234.042532.jpg

Thanks for the info on winches guys... So many things to consider with these mods we want to do.

I agree 400$ is 400$, but not all products are the same and 400$ spent in one area may result in overall savings or an increase in cost. Prioritizing those choices can drive me crazy!

Another winch question... As I am searching the whole country for a used PowerPlant, I am noticing some HDs available. Is there any issue with getting the 12k lb HD over the standard 9.5k lb PowerPlant? Are they larger? Will they rip my bumper off? I have the EVO 1/4 w/ stinger, btw.
