The building of Bison

Nothings ever easy...

Those AC delco jack stands the great. I can get more than full droop front or rear with them and I feel safe being under it. They are rock solid.

They certainly look tall enough! Might have to eventually get a set!

First test run of the trailer, Bison just barely squeezes between fenders, but it fits. The Ram handled it marvelously, it averaged around 11 mpg at 75 mph.

Took it for about a 100 mile run with a couple decent hill climbs on the highway. It barely even dropped down a gear.

How are u liking the new ram? By the looks of it I have pretty much the same but white, I love it, almost time for new tires already, trying to decide what to do. 20190828_135722.jpg

Great looking combo there.

I'm surprised you didn't get better mileage than that. We did a cross country run in my friends 06 Dodge and got 13 at 70 to 75. That was me driving. When my friend drove, he wanted to run 75-80, and got 11.

I couldn’t be happier, especially after today and letting it stretch its legs with goose and Jeep on it. It really smoothed out the ride and that was with only about 11k behind it. With the 3500 High Output Cummins and Aisan Transmission the towing capacity for that rig is 24,500 Lbs, that’s just crazy to me on a SRW. I turned 10k on it today, so I hope to have another 30k on these tires. But I am blown away by how well it pulled and how comfortable the ride was.

That included some driving thru town to get to the highway and a bunch of idling while I was loading and unloading. But I was no where near 13 on the flat stretches. This ones running 3.73 gears and really the best gas mileage I’ve gotten out of it running light was back and forth to my cabin at 17.5. My first Ram would have been in the 20s on that run. Somewhere between the lower gearing and higher emissions, I lost a bunch of MPG. I’ve started looking at reserve ranks now. The projects never end....

It's amazing how well goosenecks pull. Even with the wife's 30' trailer on our gas F250 you really don't notice it much.

You really don’t. And backing it into the spot up at my dads is a piece of cake. I’m most worried about swinging that big nose of the truck into a tree verses struggling to get the trailer to go where I want it.

The turning radius was the biggest change for me, the goosenecks turn so different than a bumper pull like I’ve been pulling for 39 years

I think it's the emissions more than anything else.

It blows my mind that you have to burn more fuel to reduce emissions 🤯

Someone should be factoring in the cost and emissions created to extract that much additional fuel to burn to make it "cleaner". Sounds like BS to me.

My 2000 KW was tuned way way up when I first got it in 2003. We didn't even realize how much until we made the mistake of taking it to the dealer one day. It came back tuned back to "stock". It felt like a slug, and the fuel mileage dropped from 6.5 to barely 5. That's like a 30% drop, for it to run worse. I was pissed to no end.
It lost between 25 to 30 miles per hour on hills, and burned more fuel doing it, and ran hotter.

Ok, rant over, sorry to hijack your thread.

No worries, I’m learning a ton!
