The Adventures of Fiona - '08 JK Rubicon 2-Door

Yeah, I really don't have an issue steering, I'm just always worried about the sector shaft. 😱

I had to be easy on the steering wheel in Moab I really didn't want to end up stranded, I know steering upgrades are in my future I just don't have the $ right now to do it.
Let me know how that red neck ram sets up when you get it all in

Yeah, I wasn't planning on getting the ram right now, but I couldn't pass up the deal. $300 and a rebuilt steering box I had in my garage for a year and a half. 😎

I'll post up the results when I get it done for sure. 👍

What an epic trip to the Rubicon this weekend! Two years of building her up to be sure I could complete the trail successfully and with minimal damage and it was a total success.

Thanks to all who went and helped me through a couple sticky situations. 🍻

It seems the worst that happened was that the Rubicon put the final nail in the old steering box's coffin... She drove straight and true, but there is now another inch or two of dead zone in the steering which made for an interesting drive home. 🤣

Good thing I've got the new steering setup ready to install... The box swap should be a piece of cake. Anyone interested in helping a brother out with some welding, though? My shop wants about $300-$400 to weld in a new track bar bracket with the tabs for the ram and I'm gonna be low on funds for awhile. 😎

I would be down to weld it for you.. But... on such a critical component I think a pro or experienced welder should lay some nice beads on it. I’m no Pro.. Have you called a Mobile welder? Might be cheaper if you get it all prepped for him.

Lol. Thanks, but yeah, if someone here local is secure in their welding skills, that'd be awesome. 😎

Sweet pic! It looks like you guys had a great time out there from the other pictures I’ve seen. Bummer about the steering box, my 2 door already likes to wander a bit at speeds with wind I can’t imagine having some play in the steering along with that lol

Lol! It's been a long time coming. The box has been bleeding fluid for over a year. I've been going as easy as possible on it, but it's way past time for a new one. 🤪

If yours is wandering, there's a problem you need to address... Make sure all the steering components are torqued to spec and all the tie rod ends are good. Check ball joints and unit bearings. If that's all good, you may need some caster correction.

A properly setup Jeep shouldn't be drifting all over the road - even if it's lifted - I don't care what anyone says. 😎

Smooth roads aren’t an issue thankfully, the highways around me have some pretty good ruts from the semis driving and those will tend to throw me around a bit since I don’t have the same track width. I’ll still go over everything when I get the chance though thanks for the advise!
