Fixed or not. If you see the photos I posted on the previous page, there is a NEW issue of the cheap Chinese steel tearing on the carrier. Like Olram said avoid this thing! Run the stock carrier until you go to a frame or bumper mounted tire carrier.

I'm sorry but I have NO faith in TF products anymore based on what I've seen with these carriers AND their long arm control arm mounts. :grayno:

I'm on TF tire carrier #2. The first one cracked near the top as noted in the photos Admin posted. I emailed TF photos of the cracks, they sent me a new carrier within a week. I've had #2 for 18 months with no problems carrying a 37" deflated to 15lbs. I fully expect it to fail in the next couple years and have been casually shopping for a different option. The longer I own this Jeep the more I realize every part from every manufacturer is going to have it's defects. The good/bad is if we didn't have problems and questions, it wouldn't be a Jeep.

Honestly, I couldn't disagree with you more. There are plenty of quality products made for the Jeep, ones you can rely on to NOT have problem and most of them are made in the USA. TeraFlex is NOT a company known for their quality and I can show you thread after thread where their products fail again and again.
 
The teraflex cb antenna mount I had bent somehow, didn't even think that was possible lol caused the cb antenna to hit the trail rack on my rear bumper
 
Just so that it doesn't get missed, FuriousDZ just had his TeraFlex Tire Carrier BREAK yet again! And, to be clear, this was AFTER he had his original tire carrier break at the mount and had since replaced it with the new TeraFlex mount. Apparently, all that did was shift the break to the next weakest point...

:cheesy: What I don't get is that it's one thing to be a fanboy and want to defend the company you love but come on, you just can't make this shit up!! We're not even talking about the breaks they were seeing on the tire mount - we're now talking about NEW breaks occurring on the so called reinforced backing plate that bolts up to the tailgate. How much longer will TeraFlex continue to BLAME their customers with install error or me just "bashing" them because I have some kind of "personal vendetta"? Fact of the matter is, they have been selling JUNK and so far they've been lucky that nobody had gotten hurt from it.

I have to say that I agree with Eddie here. I think you do as well, Demon. I am surprised no one is as bothered as I am by your statement in which you said:

The way I read that is that you know it is a subpar ($700) product and you EXPECT it to fail?!?! Do you expect you tire to bounce down the highway and kill someone as well, or is THAT too hard to foresee??

On an aside, Running your tire "deflated to 15lbs" didn't take any weight off the carrier.
 
At what point does a company ask them self if a product is truly a bad design. I wonder how they sleep at night knowing their product could become deadly.
