Ratcheting/Clicking noise help

Did a lot of last minute shopping today. I noticed that it sounds when I take off in the morning and then once I stop at a traffic light or sign it doesn't make a sound. If I stop somewhere for 30 minutes it will make the sound when I take off again. Stop lights nothing. Long resting periods I get the sounds.

Hope this helps

I have same noise but its on the passenger side front. Told the dealer, he said its the internals in the cat converter getting loose. They replaced it for free under warranty, but the noise is still there. It's definitely a rattle vs a vibration. Still haven't found it. Time to go back to the dealer to see what else they will replace for free.:crazyeyes:

Found out a tad bit more. I can make it happen at a quick thotle snap. The sound doesn't speed up. I wish it was warmer and I had a buddy willing to hang out the door and listen. Maybe I c,an tape my phone under the jeep and run the recorder. Where ever it is loudest that is whrre I will look.

Are you guys getting any ticking/lifter noise at idle? Seems the be that the noise is absent once everything is at operating temp but as it cools even slightly the noise comes back.

Is it definitely coming from under the hood? Or could it be further back?

Well I did a stupid thing a couple of days ago. I changed the oil because I was overdue and when I drove away the sound went away. I can't produce the sound no matter how I drive. My oil of choice is Amsoil 5w-20 10000 mile oil. I found a little mom and pop place in Killeen that will do an oil change for 50.00... I never get out of the Jeep too.

The sound seems to come from farther back but I guess it bounces around under there a little. I got some driving to do today and it is a really nice day so I plan on getting under it too.

AWWWWWWWE HELL!!!!!!

It's making the sound still. Lite pressure on the skinny peddle starts the noise up. I am thinking about engaging the transfer case run it through the options and then see if I still hear the sound. Sounds like it is coming from there.

I think it is some sort of bearing. It is a nice warm day today. I am going to record my sound and upload it. I was all over my drive shaft and coulnt move it one bit. That thing is on. If I take the rear off and stick it in 4 Hi can I just run on the front only? I want to eliminate some drag. I am going to jack up all 4 corners and see if I can get under there and hear it. The wife said she heard it really good on the passenger side. I am going to get recordings from both sides.

I have a lot of throw out bearing noise when I shift and clutch

Here is a video/audio from my Jeep
I hope it plays.

The squeak is from my sway bar bushing and the one rattle is from my throw out bearing/arm. I had those long before that other noise.

I fiund a fuel line in secured laying across the back cross member by the wheel humps. Really close to the frame. Gonna secure and see (listen I mean). Going to have nice weather this week so back under the jeep

I have my rear end up in the air and I am running through the gears and not a peep from anything. I guess what ever is making that sound needs to have a load on it. Bummer.

I got under there and looked at the drive shafts, U-Joints and they seem fine. Seems like the power steering box may have leaked about 4 drops of fluid at one point. Diff pinion is dry, ass end of the transfer case dry, tranny dry.

I am still looking. How about you?

As I had stated in your other thread, you more than likely have a rear drive shaft with an rzeppa joint that is fried.

Well I hope with your rear end up in the air it's not making any noises, i'd worry about the people around you.. :icon_crazy:

I backed that ass up while it was in the air. I never paid attention when the movies commented on taking the miles off when you put your car in reverse. Sooo while my ass was in the air I decided to crank it up put it in reverse and take note of the odo-meter.

I think at the 3/4 mile my dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Gave me all sorts of warning lights etc.. Beeps chimes. Then the ODO changed. DAMN. Just added another mile. It took a while to get there. I had the engine at 1500 RPM the entire way.

I got it off the jack stands and drove it down the road, with in the first 5 feet of it moving all the lights went out. I guess it wasn't programmed for someone doing that.. LOL... So even going backwards your adding miles to the vehicle.

Any advice on CHEAP drivesahafts. I haven't broken the stock ones yet sooo let's move up one level. Remember I have a 4inch lift on a 2 door. Factory Dana 44

Mine makes that noise now as well. It's the rear driveshaft. As Eddie said there will be grease on the gas tank skid.

Bummer, didn't know your drive line was going out. Do you have a replacement coming? If not, I think I might have a factory spare available.

Just heard it last night for the first time. I'm going to order one soon. I want to drive it until it fails just to see when that will be.

Just out of curiosity, couldn't waiting for the failure be a gamble? I'm assuming if it goes on the high way that the shaft flopping around after the break could do some damage to other components around it or am I way off base?
