My own JK 'Big Brake' research:

I like this ... so tired of messing with parking brake shoes.

That's what I was thinking, they have the extra pistons in the middle that engage when the cable is pulled and lock the pads to the rotor. Easy and simple.

C'mon where is your update........ waiting....... code blue......

I coding in the ER over here waiting for the part numbers so I can tear apart my wifes jk!

Well... hard to think of another clue... hmmm...

Oh, hell... I can't stand my own suspense...LOL!

The upgrade option is to run DUAL 4-piston calipers per rotor. And the pistons are sized to allow compatibility with the stock master cylinder.
Extra heat dissipating capacity without the cost of a custom, huge, hard to find caliper design. I have been in contact with a major brake manufacturer to discuss the theory (not mentioning the specific application), and they referred me to much research showing the advantages.

Unimogs, BTW, use dual calipers on their front brakes in many applications...thus the clue :)

The 'standard' version I've been working on uses a single caliper, with larger piston sizes, to match with the OEM master cylinder, as well.

And for those wondering, the dual caliper option adds around $300 to the price of the brake upgrade. Not for everyone, I know, but not terrible, I don't think :) The ballpark figure for the whole deal with BRAND NEW calipers, powdercoated, slotted 14" rotors, and roughly 1/2" thick mounting brackets, for the DUAL caliper setup, (and I've eliminated the need for machining the knuckles!!), is somewhere around $950. Keep in mind, that is buying 4 BRAND NEW 4 piston calipers...if you so desire that extra performance and cool factor. And no, I'm not selling it. I'm not gonna try to make anything off of this. I'll just tell ya how to do it.

On a separate note, I've been sizing the rears to match and improve on the factory front/rear brake bias. No, there is no need for a dual caliper option on the back. :rolleyes2:

This has been an immense increase in the research I've had to do, regarding mounting methods, change in rotor offset, trying to improve clearance with the factory rims, etc. So thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. The end result is near.

Now,Majik, in the end I'll need the same list as you because I've got the spyntecs. Haven't been sure how you were going to factor those in.

We are Jeep..Resistance is futile..

$950 for a cool factor? Hmmm, now where did I put that checkbook? :D

We are Jeep..Resistance is futile..

But please keep in mind, however, that I would not waste my time working on a mod that would in any way not be significantly upgrading the capabilities of our Jeep. The cool factor is there, however, the dual caliper version is still truly an upgrade. I don't think, however, that the base version of my project will disappoint in the least. I never figured on engineering 2 versions of the same solution, but when I took a hard look at the simplicity of it, I figured it was worth pursuing.

this totally rocks!! thanks for spending all the time on this! now where did I hide my secret Jeep only CC lol

As soon as this work is done and you post your results of the easiest way to do, there is going to be a run on the parts from pretty much every DIY guy out there and stuff is going to end up back ordered lol...

Still, I can't wait....

Cheers!

Have you figured out the reservoir?

If you mean the master cylinder, I think I've found a way to size the calipers to match the stock MC. Less work for everyone :) Hydraulics are kinda fun, though, when you have time to play with them. But for simplicity's sake, I am fairly certain the OEM unit will be great. That's why I've been so cautious about sizing the caliper pistons correctly.

any idea when the final list is coming. I think many people are waiting for this information. In fact same for me. I waited specific for the information but we are already waiting since april...

Woh let's not rush the guy. Lol. He does have a family and job and has been spending a lot of his own money on this project just to help everyone out with a cheaper better solution. If he wanted he could not give the info and sale the kit for a huge profit as I'm sure it will be a lot better than what's currently available.

With that said hurry up we are waiting. Lol jk

If you are in a rush why don't you figure this out for yourself? Let us know when you think you will be finished.

For Real... Umm.. Hey You! hurry up with all your free research and saving me money! Can't you see, I am on a time schedule here! And, you aren't fitting into my schedule with your free advice... Give me a break...

Cool. Your first post and this is what you come up with? Very original
