I may have convenience my wife to let me get the EVO Manufacturing JK 4 Inch DoubleD Bolt on Long Arm Kit. I have to see about getting shocks first since coil overs are next year's list to do. What you guys think for shocks? Bilstein 5100 or 5160? Or a different brand???

I too have been looking into getting rid of my r.e. long arm kit and going to the evo mfg double d kit my question is could you use the springs and shocks off of the kit we and just do the long arm upgrade to save some money to put towards the bolt oncoilovers I realize the ride wouldn't be as good as the plush rides but Im hoping they wouldnt be on that long and if I'm wrong please let me know it was just a thought and and sorry for the hijack

I'm not sure if you can buy just the long arm portion of the kit??? I had the same exact idea but then I can sell the full kit right off the bat with all the parts. Your not hijacking the thread by any means. Thank you for posting and hope to hear from you again. Welcome to WAYALIFE. :thumb::rock:

You absolutely can get just the long arm upgrade. Its about $2100 and can be had in bolt on, or high clearance(but this requires coilovers) bracketry.

I think I would just hold on to the other parts and sell it when I could afford the coil overs it will save you around 1600 dollars I believe which is almost the cost of the front coil over kit

Well actually if you get the bolt on kit, you would still want/need to purchase the drag link flip kit and the long arm kit seperate. If the buyer above went with the double D LA right now, all he would be getting rid of with a coilover upgrade are the coils and whatever shock he decided to go with. Both of which would have decent resale value.

And I may be wrong but if you purchase the complete double d kit and drag link the cost through evo is just over 4000.00 but if you do the long arm upgrade drag link flip kit and front coil over its like 4350.00 and run the rear springs and shocks we have until funds are available to do the rear c.o and I don't know other peoples financial situations this just seems like the better choice for me . I just hate spending money twice if it's not where you want to be eventually

I would suggest you buying your stuff though Northridge4x4. They are the greatest place you can buy stuff for your Jeep. Look at the Jeep JK Wrangler thread and you'll have your informaiton on the lifts. I'm asking the same exact questions that you are.

Front AXLE PREP

Got home and sitting on the counter was more stuff. Got in Alloy USA tube seals, differential fluid and pump for the gallon size bottle. Not sure if I'm going to use the tub seals yet since some people say that it might rotate after a while. I'm now waiting on Alloy USA full C clips.

Bushing Bash

Went out with a friend today to flex the jeep to see if the shock is the limiting factor......Sure enough it only dropped a inch more without a shock. Then I spotted a big problem with the bushing. The rear upper control arm bushing was completely out of the upper control arm and it was hitting the side wall. I got home and took it all part and found both sides of the bushings are bad. Guess new bushings are in order!!!! :grayno:

I also spray painted the EVO slider today. The guy that was going to help me out with welding didnt have time today. Hopefully next weekend.

EVO sliders painted

I got the EVO sliders all painted and tomorrow I'm getting them on. Found out today the EVO high clearance lift is right in the way of the relocated bracket I was going to have welded on so I plan to get a work around. The steel that I bought, I plan to cut it to size and weld it right on with no brace. Then I can cut it right off so much easier than the EVO bracket setup and save it for the EVO high clearance to relocate the brace in the correct location. I'll provide a picture of what I'm talking about.

This is what I was thinking.

This will not work with the EVO high clearance lift that I'm wanting to get later this year.

All painted. At first I painted them flat black and them some how I got semi gloss. Looks a lot better with Semi gloss

looks good! I like matte black, rather than flat, personally.

Thank you. When getting them there was a crap load of stickers all over them. Had to take a grinder and get it all off. Wiped them down to take the oil off of the metal. Then sprayed them down with primer, 2 coats. Then two coats of black spray paint. I don't think my paint work is the best but it works. Wish I could get into the en-closer better so it doesn't rust......:grayno:

I have seen one where someone sprayed into the gap/hole of the EVO emblem and filled with expanding spray foam to help prevent rusting. I know the foam is an insulator and "filler" but it isn't a water tight sealant, so Im not sure how much that would help or worsen the issue of rusting. :idontknow:

Thank you for the recommendations. You've got a point about spray in foam but your right that it would hold water. I'll have to think about it for a little bit and post up. :yup:

Here's an idea... see if you can get one of those little red tubes from WD40 to fit your paint can. If so, bend the tip of it a bit and stick it in the enclosure and spray it around. Some paint in there is better than none I'd think.

We Are Jeep..Resistance Is Futile..

Control Arm Bushings/ EVO sliders on hold

Well yesterday I got up to my buddies house, got everything setup and started to weld on some brackets for the relocation..........Then I realized that it would be hell to cut them off and re-weld the new brackets. So I'm holding off on the EVO sliders once again!!!! :grayno: I'm going to get the EVO high clearance long arm kit and then get them on. To many things that have to get done before those DAMN sliders are welded...:naw:

Anyways I got in my new bushing and started to install them.
