My first Grayiling...on a streamer. Caught 3 more on a streamer, including a 20”. I did bust out the 4wt and fished dry flies (to give my arm a break for a couple hours) and caught a crapload of 14”-16” fish...and one 20” bow that put me into the backing...

Porcini’s anyone? They literally grow overnight...and they are huge...

40” pike... on a 10” streamer with twin 1/0 hooks....strip like a crazy man; glad I caught this in 30 mins...

So...a party of 4 left on a Wednesday, and I had the whole place to myself with the three guides, chef from Nawlins, and the housekeeper...we made a fire overlooking the Big Ku river, grilled up some lamb kebab’s, cooked the pike and partied like it was 2021...

There were plenty of bears, including this one that was three rod lengths away. One day one the middle Moraine, counted at least 35 different bears, including 5 moms with cubs...

When the sockeyes started to drop eggs, the big bows were no longer interested in streamers...it was bead time

If you ever get a chance to go to the Katmai Peninsula, go...20” rainbows are like 12” fish here...very plentiful

That was actually half way through at Big Ku...I rolled this cancelled trip from last year into a two week trip in the Katmai near the same area, fishing different rivers from each lodge. I was supposed to go to Russia last year as well, so rolled it into a stay at the Royal Wolf, which is a six minute float plane ride from Big Ku instead of flying back to Anchorage...
