bent axle shaft flange

Bent Axle?

Looking around for used no luck yet. It looks like Ten Factory sells rear replacements individually so probably going that route for now.
Thanks for all the replies.

Re: Bent Axle?

If you bent the flange, why not pick up some better shafts (I know the flange will not be stronger) that have a warranty, like ten factory? Unless your planning to step up to 40s, the venture to a 60 may not be worth right now. Even if you go 60, unless you get a full float the same thing can easily occur again. And if I'm not mistaken a pro rock 60 is wider than d44 unless you order to be d44 width (dunno why you would want that). So you would be stuck buying both axles at the same time. After lockers and all that with install all said and done, I bet that will cost ya 16k. New shafts=$500 ish, $1300 if you get fronts also:) look on northridge

Re: Bent Axle?

Oh yea and those slabs you ordered will not fit a 60.

Thanks! I have a rubi, are the shafts the same lIngth as the stock 44? Thought I read they have different lengths due to the elocker. I could be smoking crack though.

Sorry about the info on the axle for sale, didn't know you were in a Rubicon.

What? You don't know what every member is running?;) Thanks for looking out for me though, it's the thought that counts.

That trail looks pretty intense!

I'm sure you're not the first to bend an axle on that trial...and certainly not the last!

You can get a 60 cut down to the same width as your 44 but you can't get it in a full float though. That trail looks awesome. This is the way I want to go so I don't make my jeep any wider.

.....Rear driver wheel squeaking pretty good unless hitting the brake.....

Not taking into account the woobly wheel, is this symbolic of a bent axle flange only? I have this same issue, but always assumed it was the clips on the rear pads needing more grease (been putting it off till next tire rotation).

A warpped rotor will cause a squeak like this too but, you wouldn't see a wheel wobbling around.

bent axle flang? or something else

So how would one know if they bent a rear axle flange? i ask because i have been hunting down this squeak for a while now and i traced it back to the rear passenger wheel area. The squeak i hear ONLY happens when i make a right turn. if i press on the brakes it stops.

now i know i thought i had a bad wheel bearing before in the past but i have debunked that this time around again being the issue. there is zero play up front.

any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Could be you just have a slightly warped rotor and squeaky brake pads. Try flushing your brake area with a hose and see if the problem persists. If it goes away, that could be your problem. Otherwise, you could put your rear end on jack stands, remove your wheel, brake caliper and rotor and use a dial indicator to determine if your flange is bent.

Is there any end play when you jack up the wheel?

if the rotor was warped wouldnt it squeak even when going straight or making a left turn?

i will try flushing it later. we have had some rain here the past few days and im sure some of the puddles i drove thru helped clean it out but i will double check :yup:

i dont have a dial indicator so i guess i will have to go buy one and see if thats the issue.

i just went out and checked and there was no play (from what i could see) while on the ground or up in the air.

Could be dirt in, or worn out Ebrake shoes..
Also there could be a lip on the inside of the rotor where the shoes ride. I know when I did mine they were totally shot and the Rotors had a very large lip on the outside..

Well I know for a fact I have a bent rear flange just waiting to replace it when I finally get to doing my gears but mine does the same thing with the squeaking and stops when I turn right ( driver rear axle) easiest way is like they said jack it up rear axel and put it in drive and have something like a pencil or something that you can line up to the back of the rotor and see if the rotor is moving back and forth at all. This video should show better than I can say http://youtu.be/A_B5PwwH2y8

This is a possibility. Could be time to replace the pads also. When you go around a corner, the rotor flexes just enough to touch the brake pad wear indicator.

the only thing that keeps me from thinking its the pads is that they are semi new still. did them about 10,000 miles ago. one would think they should last longer. plus like i said its only when i turn right is when i squeak so why wouldnt it do it when i turn left as well? (not trying to sound rude at all, its all serious questions :))
