ZERO TOPAZ

Another project we've been working on is cleaning up the stable and bringing it to a point of arrested decay. Essentially, stabilize it enough so that it won't fall down and make a few improvements to it so that it's useable. Here's a few shots of what it looked like when we bought the property.

After cleaning up all the crap (no pun intended - there was tons of horse poop everywhere), junk, 4 pallets of cedar shakes and organized some of the more usable wood, this is what it looked like.

Of course, this is where we started to see real help needed to happen.

Before we could start fixing things, we had to pull everything out.

Then it was time to break out the heavy equipment.

After busting up the existing concrete, a new footing could be installed.

Still got one more to go but here's how things are looking now.

That’s looking really nice!

LOL - oh, okay. I was gonna list them for sale on Craigslist but I'd be more than happy to sell all of them to you or as much as you need for cheap! Only problem is I'm not sure how to get them to you or even get them loaded up on a truck other than one at a time by hand.
I also want some Just need to get up there - Thinking October??

In spite of it being hotter that we've ever seen or felt it since buying this ranch (95°F), I have to say that it was great to spend 3 full days working on it from sun up till sunset.

Here's a sunrise shot of the escape pod from our first morning there. Definitely need to pull this thing up LOL

Another shot looking around the corral.

Here's a shot I took looking back at the ranch from our morning hike.

So, the biggest project that we decided to take on was to start cleaning up the arena. Here are a few shots of what it looked like before with the fence covered in deteriorating fiber board and blanketed with Horehound (a real shitty perennial invasive weed that has deep roots and nasty stickers on it).

And here's what it looks like now that we've cleaned things up a bit.

The other ongoing project we worked on (mainly Cindy) was leveling out the floor in the stable. Ideally, we'd like to cover it with the tons of flagstones that were on the property. Fortunately, there's been plenty of fill gravel and sand to work with. Here's a few shots to show the new retaining wall we built and the slow progress made bring the floor up.
