The Slimer Build Thread

Of course because of the color! :thumb: "You gots to co-ordinate!"

If it were me I'd probably skip the boots and make sure to wash the Jeep often. :thumb:

Yeah, I'm trying to find a good carwash in town. There is an older guy at work that keeps his truck IMMACULATE all months of the year. I picked his brain a while yesterday... But the carwash he uses is about 20 mins from my house. He does it all at one of those do-it-yourself stalls. He said NEVER use the brush. If you have to, bring your own microfiber sponge for scrubbing. But he swears by just using the powerwasher. He uses the prewash setting, then the wash, then the wax (even I'm the wheel wells and undercarriage). He then dries it with some microfiber shammies from Griot's Garage. He doesn't wipe down the wheel wells though, because the wax helps keep salt off and makes future cleaning easier.

On a side note, I will be posting a guide to the tail light wiring soon, to aid MTG and anyone else in wiring their new tail lights.

Trying to decide between the Poison Spyder BFH rear bumper or just the EVO D-shackle adapters for the frame rails. Any opinions or advice from anyone about the advantages/disadvantages of one setup over the other?

Waiting for my evo carrier to show up. When it does im going bumperless with evo shackles. Carrier and skins weigh in at 150+ lbs so no bumper will save some weight. Plus it looks badass.

Having some sort of bumper will give your tub some protection if you drop off a rock/step and smack it. I've come really close to smacking myself. I run EVO tire carrier and EVO d-rings. I'm going to go with the PSC BFH in the future once I figure out a solution for my hitch mounted Mountain bike rack.

Oh yeah, forgot about the hitch... That has to be removed for the BFH I take it?

I had the PSC BFH rear bumper, never mounted it because the amount of extra fab work needed to be done with my EVO Lever rear suspension. I had bought the bumper prior to my EVO build and never realized it would not work. That bumper is actually an awesome piece of minimalist kit, not much to it at all! Not sure how he will mount the hitch back to the crossmember, since quite a bit gets cut away.

Look at my EVO shackles on my thread. I was disappointed that they did not even come close to being flush with the frame ends. also had to gring out some of the frame to make the shackles able to work.

Actually that is pretty common. The frame horns lengths on every jeep actually do differ in length believe it or not. I barely had to trim any frame at all, but I have seen a few people trim well over an inch on each side.

Yes, you cut your frame and crossmember at an angle. You can see the templates on page 4/5 in the instructions here: http://poisonspyder.com/assets/install_instructions/PSC-INST-BFHREAR-JK.pdf

That's why you lose your hitch, once I figure a way to transport my mountain bike, I'm going this route.

yeah I didn't bother trimming mine, I think I have about 1/3 of an inch of frame rail, doesn't bother me or interfere.

So if I ever plan on the EVO lever, this bumper would interfere? Do you still have the BFH hanging around...? Want to get rid of it to a good home? Haha.

Actually the EVO lever's rear point of attachment is so close to the part of the rear crossmember that gets cut away to make room for that bumper, that I was not comfortable trying to fab something up to make both work. It can be done though, Larry McRae (PSC Owner) ran that bumper and an EVO lever on his JKOH rig. I spoke with him about what he did to accomplish it, but I still went the route of going bumperless with EVO d-rings instead. I gifted the bumper about a year ago to a distant relative who is a JK owner, sorry Prime.

Haha, no problem. Thanks for the advice. Based on the amount of wheeling I am able to do, the bolt on coilovers are in my future plans but I'm not sure I could justify the lever system.

Is this legit?

This isn't the best picture, but its raining outside so it'll do for now...
Should the johnny joints be as straight up and down as possible, or is it ok for them to be leaning/tilted at an angle? Most of mine seem to be tilted, but if they dialed in the length of the long arms correctly at install, I'm wondering if trying to straighten these will change the length of the arms unfavorably.

I am also experiencing some "crunching" noises, mostly in the front, when I go off a steep curb and the vehicle tilts. I'm thinking its the EVO plush coils. Is that normal?

My Johnny Joints have always had a slight tilt/cant just like that. This is not a problem. As for the ''crunching'' noises, well I hope that is nothing serious, maybe it is the coils seating in their buckets???

Edit: I was going to ask about the lack of front driveshaft, but I see your other thread. That sucks man, hopefully someone will buy that Coast 1310 soon.

Speak of the devil... Front 1350 arrived today!

That is a sweet sight!

Haha, yes it is... Especially since the other day I took off my front yoke so i could package it up and send to the guy buying it. Didn't realize, with my minimal vehicle knowledge, that the yoke retained the diff oil... Luckily, I took it into the dealership the next morning to have the gussets and LCA skids welded on (the jeep mechanic at the dealership is actually REALLY good, and a jeeper himself). That's when the mechanic told me how lucky I was that I didn't destroy the front diff... That was a HUGE cost averted... Taking it back tomorrow to have him install the front shaft because I'm worried to destroy the crush sleeve if I do it myself. Want him to figure out the "crunching" too. It is every time the vehicle leans to one side or another, like turning out of a slanted driveway...

Did you check the springs as above?

I'd check your sway bar endlinks for creeking when you move them. Mine did it and it took forever to find. Also look for a bound bushing. Maybe loosen them all up and rock the jeep side to side?
