The build of Big Red (Knuckles)

Well that's shit. At least it is sorted for the most part.

Now, I'd liquid wrench anything you have left to help the Friday install along. :yup:

All I have left to do is put the shaft in. The yokes were installed today so I'm basically 90% done

Well as you may or may not have seen in the Rausch creek thread knuckles suffered a pretty bad break. Luckily I had Andrew and Jay there that knew what they were doing to get me off the trail.

The next day they stuck around with me, way past the time they needed to get home at a decent time themselves, to make sure I got on a flat bed to get myself home.

Well earlier today I call Tim at Trail Jeeps to get a quote from him. Also I was curious about Revolution axle shafts. Tim actually gave me the number to the owner of Revolution to speak with him directly about his product and warranty. After a 15 min discussion I decided these were the shafts for me! Lifetime warranty on the shafts and a 2 year warranty on the ring and pinion! I promptly called Tim back and placed my order for the Revolution R&P, master install kit, rear chromoly axle shafts, and a new 30 spline ARB air locker. I can't wait for the new parts to get here!

Glad to hear knuckles is getting fixed soon! Gotta get back on the trails.

This was a shitty break and had nothing to do with being on the trail. In a way, it was good that this is where it happened. It was actually causing the rear to lock-up every so often. Who knows what the outcome would've been if it had happened on the interstate.

The real tricky part to the trial "fix" was dealing with the pinion. The bearing was seized to the pinion and didn't want to come out. It was flopping so badly that even removing the ring gear alone wasn't enough. so we ended up ziptieing a bungee to the pinion threads and attaching the other end to the cross-member to hold it in place. Andrew and I were pretty proud of that little rig :yup:

Let me know when parts are planned to arrive Steve, I will try to work something out to get you going and help with the labor. I'm surprised you didn't take the opportunity to jump to 35 splines.

Yea I'm glad that it broke where it did!

I didn't go to 35 spline because I was thinking of the simplicity of carrying trail spares and if I didn't have it one day and someone else had one it would swap out easier.

Here is Jay and Andrews ingenuity for pulling the pinion forward and out of the way
