The build of Big Red (Knuckles)

A good impact... mine has 700 ft-lbs per blow in reverse. Sometimes they are damn tight. You can also try a long pipe over a breaker bar.

Just a couple lol

Anyone have any experience with a pinion nut that will not come off? This thing is torqued to infinity and beyond

Put your purse down while you are trying to loosen it and use both hands? :idontknow:

You just need to man up. I did mine with a breaker bar.

Lol if only you knew how wedged on this nut is. I took it to the shop down the street to see if they could air impact it off. Even their air guns can get it off. Looks like I'm throwing the stock shaft back on :(

Use pb blaster. It should be that hard.

What about hitting it with some heat?...I've had success doing this with stubborn bolts in the past, then the impact dos the trick.

The only thing I do NOT know is if there would be any adverse effects of the heat with the diff, pinion, etc...maybe someone else could chime in?

The diff gets hot when driving. Doubt you would over heat it unless you put it in a fire.

Good thinking. A little heat would probably be OK, but if you got it too hot, or a little bit of flame deflected and hit the seal area, you're probably going to damage the pinion seal.

I wouldn't put heat on it unless all else has failed. This said, sounds like you might be getting close to that. Is the guy that did your gears close?

I thought my front was tight, I bowed a two foot breaker bar trying to remove it, it didn't budge. I was finally able to get it off with a Dewalt electric impact wrench from work.

I feel your pain Coz, we used a 3/4" impact and a breaker bar to get my pinion nut off. I think it's that damn Pennsltucky rust!!

Well nothing seems to be going my way lately so why change.

Took knuckles to a local shop that's good friends of mine to install the driveshaft today. They were able to get the pinion nut off the diff and install the yoke but when it came time to install the driveshaft it was to long. They took measurements for me from yoke to yoke at full droop and at ride height so when Adams calls me back I can give them the new numbers. Hopefully they can get the new one out to me before Friday otherwise it doesn't look like I'm wheeling this weekend. :grayno:

That sucks but at least they let you know and didn't try to make it fit.

when I had the pr44 installed the shop installed the driveshaft and adjusted the angle to make it almost work. I was already delayed for my trip because of their excuses and they kept telling me it was fine and that's how it was suppose to handle. I got fed up with their bs took the shaft off, adjusted the angle and set the toe properly, amazing how quickly all the issues disappeared!
Anyway, when I got to my destination I took the driveshaft to a driveline shop I've used before, they took the measurements, shortened and installed it for about $100, you can't beat integrity and good service.

Bummer - as mentioned, at least they caught it. Better than if they tried to make it work anyway.

You and I are on a roll as of late with the jeeps lol

Shit steve. Sounds like my luck...
Yea I have been on a real downward roll as of late. I'm praying my luck turns around soon cause I need it.

Yea I'm glad they didn't try and make it fit. Myself and my dad are good friends with them so they are trust worthy people and ones that I know will do me right when it comes to knuckles. I can't say that about many shops or people these days :naw:

Adams called back and I have them the new measurements for the shaft at full droop and at ride height. Got them to send it to me by Friday afternoon for a small cost of $80 (this is after I quickly talked them down from $150 for shipping costs). Hopefully fedex doesn't drop the ball and gets it to me by then so I can install it.
