I don’t really understand this point as a whole. Why should tips not be taxed? It’s earned income. If tips shouldn’t be taxed then my whole paycheck is a tip from my employer for showing up everyday.

Well there’s a few ways to look at this but there is a difference between a salary and a gift. If you look at a tip as a gift since it’s voluntary then it makes sense. Personally I think ALL taxes need to be eliminated on individual income but that seems to be off the table at the moment.
Now whether I agree on the whole custom of tipping or not is a different discussion as well. But the larger point of the poast above is Kamala Harris’s disingenuous bullshit. She literally provided the deciding vote to hire 85 thousand new IRS agents to go after middle class taxpayers.

As for gift, if my parents give me a gift of $5000 to buy a house I have to report that. How is that different?

However we need to start somewhere. Tips and Social security are a great start. Then gifts, next inheritance. The enemy of good is perfect. There is a reason why we are losing.

My State doesn't tax S.S., BUT, since I will have a pension that is considered income and I will be taxed on that.
Where the kicker comes in, when I start S.S. and will have my pension, I WILL be taxed on some of my S.S. because of where the pension puts me.
I understand in the whole process why, but it doesn't make me happy.

Unless they changed this recently gifts are not reportable up to 12 or 15 thousand per year I don’t remember the exact number. Edit doing a little Google fu I found it’s 18 thousand dollars for individuals or 36 k for husband and wife.

Inheritance taxes are especially insulting. Folks spend their whole lives being taxed on every penny they make if they manage to build a decent nest egg to leave their heirs they are taxed again.

Sorry that doesn’t make sense. When I put cash into my bank account the teller doesn’t ask me where it came from. It may or may not be reported probably is to combat the so called war on (some) drugs. But the point of the poast was taxes and gifts.

Amounts of $10,000 or more are reported to the IRS. It’s related to an old ‘anti crime’ and drug law which is abused often. Lots of people have gotten screwed by it who were not committing crimes.

Tips should not be taxed so that the waiters and waitresses who supposedly will benefit can then cast their vote for the politician who proposes removing the tax.
