SLICKROCK Saturday Trail Run

Thanks Cindy and Eddie, this was another epic run... I learn more and more each time with you guys and yes, trusting your (1)spotter is key and was glad to have you spotting me when needed on this trail. I've learned a lot about the limitations of my Jeep and myself and what goes into getting your next upgrade. I enjoy going out with you guys because you're responsible, enjoy nature and of course the company of others alike.

Here's some pics that I took.

Eddie I totally agree about the ladder being crowded. Those same people are there every weekend. When we were there they had huge boulders blocking the way and thief rigs parked in the obstacle blocking everyone. I'm just stating facts. I think they are ruining the trail for everyone. When we were there guys were making there own bypasses through the forests and tearing shit up. Its sad to see people taking over the trail like that. When we were there there was at least 40 people at the ladder so much so that people were turning around...I think that's what they want...

.....and that's how trails get shutdown. Hope people wise up. Slick Rock is such a fun trail.

Looks like a very fun weekend and like everyone had a great time. Eddie or anyone that run the trail, if you can, please message mme details on the rigs and if you have pics would be helpful. We can engage with Slickrock Mafia and Joaquin Jeepers along with FS so it goes through proper channels and will be glad to help. thanks!

Awesome pics, thanks for posting them up!! So you know, I think you're a great driver and have come a LONG way since I first saw you out on Prison Hill. You have great throttle control now and good instincts. We need to get you up on 37's so that you can play on some of the harder trails with us :thumb:

Yup, you about described what it looked like for us as well. There were about half a dozen rigs up on top, a few at the bottom, the 5 of us when we got there and then another group behind us. It was nuts! There were tons of people just sitting around drinking beer and after talking to a few of them, they just came out to play on the one obstacle. Slickrock on a weekend is far from being the tranquil trail that it used to be. I personally wouldn't recommend it to get away from it all or to introduce new people to wheeling as it's more yahoo central than anything now. Of course, it is a public trail and it's just as much theirs to use as it is mine - I think I'll just spend more of my time elsewhere.

Yes, it is. I've been doing this for a very long time and it always saddens me to see our trails get shut down because of this kind of behavior.

One of the buggies was an old black SR5 that had been made into a buggy. The other was a red Bruiser. I don't have any pics of them and even if I did, I don't have any proof that they were the ones who jacked up the trail. I just know they passed us up earlier in the day and I know what I was hearing after the fact.

I think it's really awesome that you still wheel with new people. I hope to get the chance one day. We have the same problem down here in the flatlands. Several great fishing spots that you can't get to any more because the big mud trucks running tractor tires have dug the mud holes so deep you can't make it through.

Wow... how depressing.

If you're able to do a mid-week run, you should come join us sometime - maybe even out to Niagara Rim. After this recent experience, I think I'm done with doing runs on the weekend or at least, up in the Sierra's.

Well that sucks. As far as new people go, we love introducing them to what we love. In fact, they're the most fun to be around as everything excites them and they're enthusiasm is contagious.

Yes it does.....we went to slick rock on 4th of july weekend, the next day got up and went to Niagara Rim and it was empty, no body was there or at least we thought.... we talked to some people who go up there and they said they had not seen it that busy.....but it was desolate I mean I couldn't believe what there idea of "Packed" was......It is one of my favorite runs.....for me, next time I go, ill turn around and Rockpile and go back otherwise you get dusted out.....but yes I'm down to go with you guys let me know. I have my own business and I can sometimes take off midweek....

Cool trip, except for the one part.

A lot of rants on here turn, well you know, but yours sounded spot on and well said. You didnt go over the top to flames those guys and even acknowleged their rights as well. You were polite on the trail to boot. Stupid crap those guys "enjoy" like that closes areas off. Two of my old favorite areas in Oklahoma were closed for crap like that. We have to work and play together or everyone looses (even tree huggers).

Keep doing what you are doing and helping others out, your rant was alright with me at least IMHO. Not that you need my approval.

They probably had flat hat bills, but that is just me being negative. To each his own, just dont mess it up for everyone.

Here is MTG going up the ladders, starting recording this right after he got some MAJOR AIR time. Missed it by just seconds.

That is awesome. The irony of a Mike filming a Mike is not lost on me.

Great video guys and thank you for sharing. Excellent filming of excellent driving. I just wish I could have seen the airborne part.

Deer Valley had been open. I confirmed with Forrest Service . We were parked at the trailhead airing down tires when the ranger pulled up. He let us thru and closed it behind us. He said it will be closed temporarily for assessment of damage done to the meadows. We definitely would not have run a closed trail.

The trail is open, the creek crossing is closed. You can run from either direction to the creek but you aren't supposed to cross it is the forest service info we received.
