I dunno. Maybe it is a job hazard but I believe discussion is always a good thing. If even one person walks away from this thread and has similar discussions with another person, perhaps the ball slowly starts to move just a hair. That is at least something.
I get your point though. I agree that some parts of this thread are an exercise in frustration...but I’m not yet ready to say the whole thing is an exercise of futility. I’ve read some very well-thought out and reasoned posts, including from people who are purists in their positions on the 2A. I appreciate all of those posts regardless of the positions taken.
One thing is certain. If we become too afraid to talk about tough issues we will never have the fortitude to actually do something about those tough issues.

It’s difficult to come back to this everyday or every couple days or every week and have to go around in circle. But apparently not coming here means I’ve somehow forgotten and moved on.
I have kids, as you do, and it is scary every fucking day. You know what I did today when my son went to the beach, told him I love him and to be safe, just like I do everyday. You know what I thought though.... I hope no sick twisted mother fucker has it out for high school band kids having fun on the sand. WTF is that shit. Our parents didn’t have to worry about that! I should have to worry if he comes home with sand in his hair not if he will come home.
So I was venting about the frustration of coming to this thread and seeing the growing lack of real discussion of these shootings. Coming to this thread and seeing blatant Russian memes fill this place. And like a handful of people care. Meanwhile we’re now a place to further share that hate from. Wayalife, a place where Russian memes live free. Never would I have ever thought that. But hey, free speech. It’s untouchable because it’s an amendment. Oh wait.
Anyways, I’m snarky and sarcastic now and that isn’t helping the convo.

Possibly. But there's been some good posts and I've been open minded to listen.
I speak for myself and I hope I speak for others here that the majority of those posting here are tired of seeing people senselessly murdered for no reason and would love to see/support a change in this. I don't see people posting here against murder in a 'minority' point of view and don't think you see it either. Maybe I'm really missing something.
By the way, since stricter background checks were brought up, not a single person here has really addressed my questions about the details of these 'hot media headlined' new supposed 'stricter' background check ideas that are different than what we already have in place. I myself would be more than willing to listen to some good ideas/conversation if it would save lives.

This isn’t really a “murder” thread. This is a gun violence thread. There are two words involved and both should be looked at equally. Guns. Violence. We do this for every other issue except this one. Why?
So, what can be done to better manage and secure/instill safety around guns. What can be done to better manage and secure/instill safety around violence.
Better background checks aren’t just a media headline. They are a real thing and there are already laws/bills passed overwhelmingly (bipartisan) in the house. These bills don’t ban any guns. They do make it harder to get guns. But the senate is paid off and not even being allowed to vote on them.
Nothing is going to be foolproof or stop anything 100%. But honestly, What if we could stop even 1%.
