So is there anything I need to bring? Basically are we fending for ourselves on food or are just eating these hotdogs I keep reading about? Honestly though, let me know.
Aside from the camping gear (tent or JKUR with backseat folded down, sleeping bag, head lamp, camp chair, etc), you should bring plenty of water and any other drinks and snacks of your choosing. Breakfast Saturday/Sunday morning is usually the Burger King on the way to RC. You'll need to pack a lunch for the days you are wheeling. We are going to figure out dinner for Friday and Saturday nights over the next week. It usually involves hot dogs, brats, burgers, etc. If you want something specific, go ahead and bring it. Last time, everybody and their mother brought packs of hot dogs and hot dog buns. Because of the rain, moderate to heavy drinking, and general tomfoolery, I ended up having to throw away 5 or 6 packs of half used hot dog bun bags. KP salvaged about 5 or 6 packs of unopened hot dogs. I'm sure they're still good... If you have a camping grill, I'd go ahead and pack that along with a small propane tank or two just in case. I cannot promise that there will be any charcoal grills to use. There weren't last time, and the EV Manager has been very non-committal about providing any for us.
The campground sells ice for $2/bag. So does the gas station right by BK. I would make sure you at least start out with ice before you get there. We get our firewood from the camp at $8/9 pieces of wood. Bring some cash for the firewood fund, and $15/night (cash) to pay for the campground use. RC takes both cash and credit, but I don't know their prices. Their website should have them, though.
Bring warm clothes and rain gear. We saw Noah and his ark float by us at some point during the evening last time. Cold and wet is a miserable way to spend time in the woods. There is a shower facility at the campground, but it is about 300-400 meters away from the pavilion area (different one from last time for those who are returning). Bring shower shoes if you plan on using it. I don't trust the disinfecting skills of the campground staff. There are port-o-jons in our area, so bring your favorite roll of toilet paper just in case your bowels aren't synched with the cleaning crew's visit. This is where that headlamp comes in VERY handy. It will more than likely be dark when we get back, so a little light takes all the guesswork out of any paperwork you have to file (so to speak). No sinks to wash your hands afterwards, so use baby wipes, hand sanitizer, or just rub some dirt on them and you'll be fine.
Oh yeah, and we'll all need some American Honey!
