Jdofmemi and the yet unnamed Jeep rebuild

LOL! That says it all. :cheesy:
Jerry put me on a couple lines that I would've been afraid to take in the daylight. If it was anyone else, I probably wouldn't have attempted them, but with his knowledge of getting machinery through things that most of us would think is insane, I trusted his guidance and went for it. [emoji15]

I must say, I was really impressed the way Fiona handled those trails... Super improvement over how she handled before her makeover. This was the first true test and she passed with flying colors.

Jerry's rig was amazing. I mean, he did shit with it before that shouldn't have been done, but last night I saw some stuff he did that we probably would've been replacing an axle shaft on the trail a couple months ago with no issues. [emoji23]

Jealous of you guys. Looks like a great time. You going to try to figure out the overheating before Moab? A 12 + hour drive through the desert with no a/c and heater on full blast is going to suck even if you do it at night.
Couldn't take the heat in the garage, so I headed for the hills yesterday for an impromptu test run.

I was able to convince James (Baddestcross) to come join me for a night run through Dishpan and Holcomb Creek.

It was over 20 degrees cooler on the mountain, but getting there I had to blast the heater to keep the Jeep from heating to the point it derates the power. Once I made it to the top, life was better.

I did a quick run solo down to Deep Creek while waiting for James to arrive.
I am amazed at how much better I can handle the bumps now with the 4" plushrides in front, and the 4+1 Curries from Ddays in the rear. That, coupled with the new axles gives me the confidence to really push harder on the trail without fear of damage.

After getting back from that and topping off the gas, met James and his wife, then off to the trail. The normal road to the trail is closed, so I know a much longer way around, but it was perfect. Got to the first obstacle at dusk, then did the whole trail in the dark.

With the new, higher stance, I'm clearing things that used to hang me up, and even though it is taller, it is also wider, plus the axles are heavier, so off camber feels just as stable as before, once I got used to it.

I was able to spot James up some of the trickier obstacles he has been on, and Fiona made it without any problems. I'm pretty sure he thought I was crazy for some of the angles we took, but we made it anyway.

Off the trail and aired up sometime after one am, made for a fun night, and a great way to beat the heat.

The heating problem is definitely going to get looked at. Part of it is the change from 5.13 to 4.88 gears. The engine is not at a happy speed now, and that makes a difference. Another thing is I now have a new coolant leak that basically showed itself yesterday.

I only had to blast the heater to keep the temp down while holding 55 up hwy 18 while it was well over 100 outside. In fact the Jeep dash said 111 when we started up the hill from San Bernardino.
The good thing about no top and half doors is the heater on full don't make it any hotter inside, it just keeps the AC from blowing in your face to make you think it's cooler.

Looks like a blast! So jealous of the trail system you have out west. Kinda makes up for all of the fruitcakes you have to deal with I guess. :idontknow:

Like most everything in life, it is give and take.

You give up some things to gain others, and try to pick the best balance you can.

Got my interim shocks today.

I had some nice Bilstein reservoir shocks picked out. There were only two in stock at the only place I found with them in stock, and by the time I got to the checkout, it changed to 20 to 30 days to ship.
Damnit.

I picked these based on cheap and 11.5" of travel. I should have 2" more droop than my Ranchos.

I don't want to spend much, as the coilovers bug has infected me after watching all of them working.

I also plumbed in air to each side.

Nice, that longer travels going to be great.

I get the CO disease, I’m hoping it doesn’t get worse for me [emoji23]

So, I got the transmission fluid and filter changed, and the transfer case fluid as well.
Skid plates mounted back up, and took the 20 ton press to the transfer case skid plate so it's not pushed hard against the case anymore.

Now this morning I went for a 60 mile drive, and at the end, there is smoke and stench coming from under the hood. When I investigate, I find gear oil dripping out of my newly relocated diff breather, sliming the firewall, and landing on the hot exhaust, for that joyous burnt gear oil smell🤮

I need to figure out a solution for this before I stink out the whole group at Moab.

Other than that, I think I have things sorted out and ready to go.

Front or rear axle?
