Hurricane Helene

And now Hurricane Milton is headed to the Tampa Bay area it looks like and could be a Cat 4 by the time it gets here. Pretty sure I'll be headed north to get out of harms way if it stays on the tract they are predicting. Unless it hits somewhere south of us the Tampa Bay area will suffer badly. Be safe because it's coming.

I responded to Katrina and the destruction was insane. New Orleans was heavily damaged and the flooding was devastating, however the destruction in Mississippi was next level. Cities were leveled, not simply flooded but removed from existence. The big difference was Mississippi was self sufficient and New Orleans was a self inflicted victim. The people of Biloxi came together to fix their town, while the people of New Orleans mostly rushed to loot it. It was crazy.
If you drive along US 90 Gulfport to Bay St Louis today, you will still see a lot of slabs where houses where when Katrina hit

My parents and brother are directly in the line that this hurricane currently sits at… they just took down 4 trees around their houses in preparation today. They are going to wait it out. They are far enough from the coast to where they shouldn’t see any of the surge.

I'm about 3 miles of the gulf. Have a creek at the end of my property that connects to the Anclote River which connects to the gulf. That said, unless it hits south of Tampa Bay I'll be headed out. So should anyone in it's path.

How did you fair with the surge from Helene?

Unfortunately my parents have several rental properties that they own. If the tenants wait it out, they wait it out so they can be of assistance if needed immediately after the fact.

We faired well after hurricane Helene. Just some rain and strong winds. Those closer to the gulf didn't do so well. I work in Tampa but live about 25 miles north of Tampa in Trinity.

That’s good to hear. Luckily everyone I know in Sarasota did well except for my aunt and uncle (they had a bunch of sand in their condo).

My brother had a friend who lost everything on their main level since they live on the bay. Siesta key and Lido key still has a bunch of trash lining the streets that hasn’t been disposed of yet from the surge damage as well.

Lots of that in Pinellas and Pasco along the coastline still.

Saw that. Thankfully (or not so much if you are in there) it’s only Florida.
Yep some of us are here. They are saying it will slow down and hit as a cat 3 but the storm surge will be massive. Roads going north away from the storm are packed so we will be rolling out about 3 or 4 am when the roads are not so bad. If you are close to the Tampa Bay area it would be smart not to try and tough this one out.
