HOME SECURITY CAM - What do You Use?

Okay, so I got my eufy 4G LTE S330 cam and set it up at our Tin Camp a little over a week and while it seems to work well, have a good picture, very nice zoom and can rotate 360 around... it's AI seems to be a bit stupid

While I have no doubts it'll pick up humans or vehicles moving around, it completely disregards big ass elk walking right in front of it. And, I know this only because I have our Tactacam game cam still setup there and it sees and records them just fine.

What's really annoying is that the cam will send me all kind of alerts and record trees in the far distance moving in the wind

Anyway, I know this eufy cam is a 'security camera' and not a 'game camera' and the AI exists to prevent hits it determines to be unnecessary but I sure hope I can find a way to get the AI to alert and record more stuff. I know there are adjustments I can make to it and I'm hoping to find a solution. Anyway, just thought I'd share my experiences up until now.

Note to self, dress as an elk when you break into tin camp.

Having overlapping systems is never a bad thing. This happens at my house, one camera system will pick up something and another camera will not.

I share your frustration with moving vegetation, animals, and insects. There are hours of video of trees swaying. I have a deer that likes to lick the cameras at night. I had a bug land on a camera, then a moment later a bird swooped in and ate the bug, pretty entertaining at times.

I was so hopeful that the eufy cam was going to be so much better that I could retire the game cam but now I'm glad I decided to keep it going. Even with it, I get the hours of nothing that gets recorded but at least it doesn't have an AI that decides what worth recording and it WILL record everything.

Bummer to hear. I've been eyeing this one since the thread started.

Well, I would still say you should consider it but not to replace your game cam. I still like it enough that I bought another one for our Pizen property. There, I'll just be using it as a security cam.

Okay, just wanted to post an update and say that I'm really starting to like my eufy Security 4G LTE Cam S330. After playing with the settings a bit and picking out 'zones of interest', it's now capturing animals big and small. In this first clip, you can see some rabbits it captured. And I should note, I actually got an alert that motion was detected and after seeing them in the live feed, I clicked on record and got this.

Now, this is an evening clip of something a bit bigger and that the camera recorded automatically as an event. In the past, the AI would have bypassed it but happy to see it recognize elk as something worth capturing.

That's cool. I think I'm going to get the e330 kit with 4 cameras. I'm going to wait until I install the doorbell cam for awhile to make sure I like it.

So when you say 'live feed' if something moves, you get a notification and can watch the live feed right then? Do you have to open the app and select live feed or does a video pop right up on your phone?

Yes, there are different options you can choose from and I have mine setup so that I get a text when motion is detected. At that time, I can go to the app, click play and see what's going on that very second. You can also set it up so that you get a text and a thumbnail image so that you can determine quickly if it's worth looking at further.

I like that ability; glad you took the time to figure it out, this helps with taking a 2nd look at their system. (y)

I went ahead and got the Eufy dual camera wired doorbell one. I installed it today and like it so far. If I end up staying with it, I'll get a homebase and some more cameras for the rest of the property . It shows the people and the packages. So far notifications are immediate.

One sucky thing, my home's doorbell wiring was integrated to a whole house intercom system. I couldn't get this thing powered. The intercom main panel had thousands of wires and even though I found the ones going to the doorbell, nothing worked. Some research on the internet alluded to it being impossible to power doorbell cams when they're hooked to an intercom. Luckily the wires were easy to find in the attic and I went to the hardware store and picked up a normal doorbell transformer and hooked it up the the wires in the attic (basically bypassed the intercom just for that one circuit) and it fired right up. I'm just sharing this for anyone else who has a similar existing doorbell. 25 bucks for the transformer.

Been thinking about getting one of these and really appreciate the feedback on it. Bummer you had to jump through hoops to make it work but hope you end up being happy with it. Please keep us up to date.

Glad to hear you're liking it! I've been running two of the S330 and without a Homebase and been pretty happy with them too.
How much is the monthly LTE plan? Also, at night does it light up bright that might spook animals?

You don't exactly pay monthly. You buy a data plan that lasts for a year. I bought the 24GB and it was $129. Essentially, every time you view it live or download videos, you use up that data until it's gone and then you can renew as needed. So far, the one I have out at our Tin Camp, I only used up about half a GB and I think I've been using it a lot. Also, there is a light but I have mine set to being off so that I don't scare off animals. There are several settings you can use.

That said, I have 2 of these things at our Pizen property and running them through wifi so there is no cost other than internet.

Here's a night shot or should I say, very early morning shot of a guy with points walking through the pasture and taken with our eufy cam. As you can see, there is no bright light to spook him.

Seems like the eufy covers a larger area at night vs the trail camera. I have a clearing I've seen several deer but the tactacam doesn't seem to cover the whole thing like I'd like. No wifi nor power there.
