Fire in California

I know people hate Cali.. LA etc.. I get it.. But I’ve Been here my whole life.. Countless cruises with Hot Rods or Harleys on PCH up the coast to Neptunes Net or the Rock Store with friends.. Awesome views, Bitchin Homes.. Dinners with loved ones overlooking the ocean… The History.. some areas look straight out of the 60’s.. Old School Cool. This is F’n heartbreaking.

Neptunes Net is a good time and an iconic beachside seafood joint.

Yeah it’s not that easy though. What about the crap that gets sucked into the pump even with a strainer? We pump out of the river with our engines and it’s a pain to clean the tanks. A neighboring department had to have their pump replaced because they sucked up something from the river. Also, fish don’t flow out the end of a nozzle very well.
Actually it is that easy if they have access. Hard part is getting close enough as you can only lift water 24' at sea level pulling a draft. Also sounds like they were drafting out of the river with no strainer on the draft hose and the zinc anode strainer on the pump inlet wasn't there. Fire pumps are designed to pass debris usually up to pea gravel size. As for salt water, it's no big deal just flush everything out when done. Tanks in engines haven't been metal for at least 3 decades. When it comes to cleaning them out there is a big sump plug on the bottom where dirt an debris collect. Most of it sits there so not too much to in the rest of the tank. However that can be avoided if you just pump directly to the fire if you have the option however as GP said that would be a lot of hose to get there...haha. This is a subject I know a little bit about....😉

Hasn't been three decades on the metal tanks. They also had a strainer on there. You guys have clean water out there, not so much here.

Echo this 1000%. Heartbreaking is an understatement. Spent my life here as well and countless coastal drives when I was a kids and countless coastal drives with my own kids. That part of the Bu and into ventura county and up to Santa Barbara is some of the best.

I think dukes is still there though?? Earlier it was staging area for LAFD. But I haven’t watched the news much today till I just turned it on. Been following fires on the watch duty app and my cousin is area director for Red Cross in the fire areas.
Hope you are correct.

Yeah "poly tank" became the standard for most in the mid 80's. Pre 1980 they were steel or aluminum. They key is keeping the strainer off the bottom of your water source. Something an engineer would be trained on. Yes plant matter and nasty gunk can get sucked up. If you're going straight to the fire it can clog nozzels.

I don't know what California you live in but in all the years I lived there, I have NEVER seen a controlled burn or even risk management being done anywhere other than in National Forests and even at that, very limited. Never have I seen one being done in an area like the Palisades or other residential community like it for that matter.
Kern county has them, not saying a lot but they do.

I actually love California and honestly have missed it everyday since I left 27 years ago. When I was back in the fall my heart ached for what it’s become. Yeah the coast is still beautiful well except for the trash and graffiti. Our rides through LA were shocking for how badly that city has degraded. But Ventura was where we lived and honestly am seriously considering buying a place up there if I can wrap my head around the crazy political climate and restrictions on rights. It’s a beautiful area and there’s always something to do or to go and see.

Ventura, Carlsbad, the Owen's valley, and small towns in Northern, CA near the OR, NV boarder. CA is great and so much to offer but has been completely ruined by its politics.

My heart, freedoms, finances, taxes, political bias, etc., ache to get the fuck outta here! My whole family has lived here forever but Robyn and I can’t stand it anymore. The north is geographically pretty bad ass but we’re still under the thumb of the fucks in Sac. Great place to vacation and that’s it. Would never buy property here until the left have been out of power and common-sense laws supersede the tyrannical ones.

Bob are you on here for the Jeep part too or are you just Wayalife's integrated AI ChatGPT?
Just like Overlander, "I have a Jeep".

Don't know what you are responding to. My own property has been threatened by a 45k acre fire which came to 3 miles from the house (and the winds were blowing strongly towards it) with evacuation for a week, and a 12k acre fire just a month ago which was stopped just 900 feet from the house. This later fire was converted into a controlled burn. And now there is a new large fire burning an area which has not seen a fire in 100 years, but seems to have been successfully blocked.

Sorry if me making light of tense situations annoys you.
