EMMA in all her ELEGANCE - TOTAL MAKEOVER of a 1969 Jeepster Commando

With cooler weather and even some rain coming our way, I decided to switch gears and work on a project that's a lot easier to do when it's nice and hot out - bed lining! Specifically, I decided to spray in some Raptor Liner again as I was really happy with the way Jane came out. Here are a few before and after shots that I took.

Scuffed, degreased, masked off and ready to shoot!

Any exposed metal needed to be hit up with some etch primer.

I decided to shoot the transmission cover, fuel hose cover and tailgate off the vehicle.

Here are shots of what Emma's tub looked like after being Raptor lined.

Wow that looks incredible! That makes me that much more certain I want to do that to the entire outside of my Ram. The tintable version of course! Very nice work 👌

She's going to last forever now with that epoxy as well. Nice to see thing done right! Is that stuff hard to apply? And take it you have to thin it down to spray??

That stuff looks really good. :thumb:

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it. I do wish it were a bit more rubbery in feel like Herculiner but I do like how this stuff doesn't fade and of course, they make it super easy to spray in... IF you have a good compressor setup.

If you have a good compressor setup (25 gal or more), Raptor liner is super easy to spray in. No reducing is required unless you're using a HVLP gravity feed gun. Otherwise, if you buy the kit with the Shutz gun that attaches right onto the bottle, you just pour in the hardener up to the line on the bottle, shake and shoot. It really is that easy.

Looks awesome! Can't wait to see Emma all buttoned up; her and Jane look awesome all fixed up! :thumb:

You and me both! There just aren't enough hours in a day and I can't seem to work any faster. But yeah, I'm dying to get her buttoned up so that she looks more like a Jeep again

The tintable version is really nice. I've seen rigs with it sprayed in and it looks really good.
Never knew this stuff existed until I saw you use it with Jane... Then did a ton of research and agreed that the tintable version looks really good. Black looks great as well but want to stick with the original yellow of the truck.

Man not sure how I missed this one! That looks AWESOME, and Emma is for sure turning out to be a looker :thumb:

Thanks! I know we were just having a conversation about this. As you can see, doing it yourself doesn't have to look like you did it yourself

The issue most have, and Im guilty of this as well, when it comes to automotive finishing, the prep is what REALLY matters. You took the time to do everything right, step by step, most just rush it along because they want to get to the pretty and fun stuff (like paint and bedliner) but after they do it, they realize it isn't nearly as nice as they had hoped, because they didn't take the time to grind out that tiny little bump, or to smooth out a barely visible imperfection. So again, kudos on a job very well done. You just need to add an OG willys to your stable and you'll have the full collection :)

I do, you were too busy dragging the trees Irma left behind out of the road..haha.

Eddie she is coming out great. About a year and a half ago there was a jeepster for sale around the corner from me. I only saw it one day before it was gone. Didn't even get a chance to look at it. There is another gentleman with a garaged cj5 which he told me hasn't been ran in about 3 years but ran fine before he parked it. He also has a gladiator in the driveway along with a GTO. I keep hoping I'll see one for sale..;). I can't wait to see her all finished.

After spending a couple of days color sanding and buffing most of Emma's body, I decided to start working on installing new rubber seals and re-installing a few things. Fortunately, there is a company called Metro that still makes this stuff and I'm eternally grateful as it should do wonders to help tighten things up on this old girl and help her to be more rattle free.

Starting off with Emma's tailgate, I installed a seal that she never had or at least, so long as we've had her.

Moving up front to her doors, I took the window runners out, stripped of what was left of the old crusty felt and replaced it with new felt.

After reinstalling her windshield, I began the long process of re-assembling her doors with the window wings painted black, chrome cleaned up, new cat whiskers and new rubber seals on everything.

Moving over to her cowl, I reinstalled her wipers studs, washer sprayer and fresh air intake box and grill.
