I've never hunted/cooked turtle, but as a kid, my uncle and I found an empty shell. He boiled it and varnished it with poly. Lasted for years. I may still have it somewhere.

Here we go again. After about a month of no activity, a pair of yotes came through last night at midnight. New location. Just put a trap about where this clown's back feet are about a foot off the path. This is a deer trail too so hoping deer doesn't set it off.
Blue dot is the pan. Holes filled with wonderful odors, one being Mackerel.
One thing I've definitely learned, keep some dogproofs nearby for the coons or you'll be remaking the coyote set every morning.
