A Dirt Head's JK

Nothing new on the Jeep, but I did finally upgrade to the premium version of OnX Off-road for a whopping $3 a month. Didn’t realize how much I was missing on the free version LOL so this should be helpful when exploring new areas - something I wanna do more regularly this desert season. Getting excited for temps to cool down again 😎

Planning a day trip up and around Idyllwild next week, checking out some new trails we haven’t run before in the area - specifically within the Mount San Jacinto State Park.

Yesterday, my friend Mathew and I returned to Idyllwild to run a few trails we hadn’t before, ending up in a familiar area by the end the day.

Airing down at the trailhead just outside of Hemet

Getting right into it!

The Line Fire up by Big Bear was visible from up here.

The views were spectacular in every direction!

Second trail of the day, Indian Mountain, is rated as “most difficult” on OnX because it traverses from 4700 to 5700 feet - practically straight up! A near to stock vehicle will be just fine with proper line choice though. No justice of its incline on camera of course but, as you can see no shortage in stretching the Jeep’s legs either!

We made it all the way up to 7700 feet by the end of the day here, overlooking Banning. We've been here once before!

The denser San Bernardino forest and cooler temps made it super fun to traverse the final miles on dirt of the day.

Nice man.. we used to go to Idyllwild a couple times a year... mostly pre-Jeep.. I always liked the road up from the Hemet side.. I knew there must be some wheeling but never really looked into it. Looks like a fun day.

Indian Mountain, up from the Hemet side, is really all that’s worth it for wheeling. Otherwise it’s pretty easy fire roads with a rut or small rock garden here and there but the scenery is awesome nonetheless.

More pics as we drove downwards into the valley

We stopped at Idyllwild Pizza in town for what was honestly one of the best pizzas I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommended if you’re in the area. (Pic stolen from Google, forgot to take a pic)
