Oh and to add just a little bit more to the conversation, Wranglers and Gladiators are fast getting a reputation of being unreliable. I'm not talking about enthusiast groups. Gen pop thinks they cannot be relied on. That's not good.
The vast majority of folks would not even know where to start to fix the electrical issue that Eddie was having. They would dump the vehicle to carvana and tell everyone they know how crappy Jeeps are.
unreliable because the QC isn't there and when something fails, it's expensive AF or backordered and people cannot be without a vehicle for weeks on end.
I wouldn't buy my daughter a Jeep today, she has a 2015 but I've told her when it's time to replace it do not get another Jeep. It's seen nothing but pavement and still the oil filter/cooler failed, real axle shaft leaking. She loves her Jeep but I also do the work on it, I got quotes for several maintenance items and showed her how much she was saving in dad's garage.
I consider my 2018 (bought with 5 miles on it) unreliable, love driving it, I've modified it, but pissed off that Jeep still hasn't addressed the failing oil filter/cooler issue (replaced mine last week PIA); the paint is bubbled up in several places, but Jeep won't warranty it because of mileage ---that was back in 2020 when it first appeared.
It's left me semi-stranded within the year I bought it with dead batteries; semi-stranded when the head unit decided it needed to update but kept failing and I couldn't get the Jeep to go with the head unit in failed mode, 3 hours later after removing the battery cables and letting it reboot several times, it reset and I was able to get home.
That wasn't the end of the head unit issues, kept running on its own (fucking over the air updates) and several times I'd go out in the morning and the damn thing was hot to the touch because it was on and stuck from the update.
Jeep's response? It's a known issue, take it to the dealer and pay $125 to have them force the update... I didn't but it took several phone calls getting very loud with the rep until I finally reached a knowledgeable rep that sent me the interim updates required before the current OTA update could install.
IMO, the CAN BUS is about as unreliable as it gets.
