Did you use the bolts that came with the PS diff cover? I've wanted to get one for awhile as my stock cover is starting to peel on the bottom, but I keep reading the horror stories of the bolt heads snapping off. The last thing I want to do is drill/re-tap threads into an axle housing...
Yes, we used the PS bolts. Never heard of them snapping. Truthfully, you shouldn't have to tighten them to the point of snapping. The RTV holds the fluid in and the bolts merely hold the cover in place. This cover was actually used on my WJ before I installed the new axle, so we saved it and just wire brushed it and re-painted it for hers. So bolts have been torqued down twice so far. I didn't even use a torque wrench either time honestly.
Just for kicks, I went out and checked the torque on them. They're all right about 23-24 ft lbs. Factory spec is 30, so I'm a little low but it's not leaking and I'm leaving it.
