The building of Bison

It’s over rated that work thing. I just interviewed a guy. Does that count? Next up is a trip to the convenient store for tickets. I really think I’m made more for wheeling and fixing things then working and having to make money.

Only counts is you asked him if he liked Jeeps too :cheesy:

I like your theory.

I'm going to use it too.

Well, I figured out why my PSC pump belt wasn’t running straight.

All 4 Allen bolts were sheared off in the mount but enough threads were there to hold the mount together but not tight.

It looks like the mount came in contact with the engine mount causing those little bolts to fail.

I guess at this point, I’m going to clearance the engine mount and find new bolts. Any other thoughts?? The threads were good in the mount.

Bill, looks like you found the problem with an easy effective solution. At least the Allen screws were your weak link in the assembly. I agree with you, liberal clearance of the mount and reinstall with new Allen screws and belt. Not sure if you can get away with just clearancing the PSC Mount. It’s doubtful that damage was done to the pump or fittings/hydro lines but a good thorough visual inspection should tell.
Good luck!

Thanks Brian! It’s almost always a combination of factors. I’m guessing shitty steel in the bolts and a good hit on the mount did the damage.

And yes, the belt and lines are good.

Wow thank god that held through the trip for you. I'd go out on a limb and agree that it's shity Hardware.

Interested to see what you do because after watching you guys move your steering so much easier in Moab I'm really taking a good hard look into PSC.

I just need to cut off this little point.

Once I have the mount back together, I’ll bolt it up and see how much I need clearance

How is it hitting the motor mount? Something seems off. You shouldn’t have to clearance the bracket.

The upper corner was bent out towards the PSC mount. Don’t know if that was like that from the factory or what but that engine has never been out.

IMG_4500.jpg

I just cut a little the corner off. Plenty of room, now.

You can see on the piece that it would rub or catch.

It was bent outside of normal? The motor mounts have those rounded bent edges if that makes sense. Not sure how to explain that.

I’m not sure what normal is. But it was a 1/4 inch or less from the bracket before I cleared it. When the engine moves, it would contact

That’s exactly what it was. Kind of bent over towards the bracket.

Good info to know for the future. Thanks for the update, something to keep a eye out once I finally pull the trigger on it.

Wow. I better check mine!

That could cause a bad day in a hurry!

Who knows... Maybe that is why I lost a belt...

You really can’t feel the movement by pulling on the pulley. My belt wasn’t saying fully seated on the pulley. That was the first clue. Once I got the belt of and physically grabbed hold of the pump, I could feel the movement there and then pulled the pump off the jeep and found all the heads sheared off. If I would have left it, it would have eventually worn the belt just like yours, so probably worth a check.

All loaded up and a Heading to Drummond to see my parents and meeting Sister and Brother in law heading in from Wisconsin. It’s their missing Moab consolation prize. Should still be a fun couple of days!
