The building of Bison

I forgot to get back to you on my rates: 250/250 front 250/350 rear. I stopped to get Gruff weighed at a CAT scale this weekend: 6325#

So you are heavier spring rate and pressure in the rear Jerry. I have to imagine your rig is damn close in weight to Bill and probably a touch heavier than me.

I do carry a bunch of bags of gear & tools. Probably too much but I've regretted not bringing this much stuff on trips before. I drove in today less doors and didn't notice a difference in ride without them.
so in my case I'm glad I went with the rates I did.

There's a CAT scale right off of the Carlisle exit on I-81 where I stop at. $12.

Wow, I guess it’s not surprising with the heavier axles. I’m assuming I’m about the same.

Mine are coming as 250/250 front and 250/300 rear.

Ok good to know. I carry 6 bags with me all the time about 200 pounds. Looks like I need to up the bottom rear springs.

I wonder if there is an easy way to scale a Jeep from the frame to get sprung weight instead of the whole thing. Wouldn’t that be more accurate for tuning and spring selection?

Well... we’ve had Black Lives Matter protests all day here in my quiet little town of Rochester. Pretty much a whole bunch of rich white kids trying to act all important for something that they have no clue about. Well after all the fun the rich kids were driving around the neighborhoods throwing Cheese singles at peoples cars. I’m not kidding...

To make it worse, they were in a JL. This world is doomed....

Damn...don’t they know Black Trucks Matter.

The first box of the next phase has arrived!

I really thought I would go with the accutune set up and be done, but I was indecisive and with the China virus, Fox will not have the 2.5s in stock until late summer, early fall. So, I’m going to step in this next level of the build stage with the EVO Bolt-on 2.0 coilovers front and rear with adjusters. This will give me some time to learn and figure where I want to go from here if anywhere. This could end up being the right set up for me. If not, I’ll unbolt it next year and sell it to another WOL member and go in a different direction.

And since I can stand any squeaks I ordered a set of these:

They wont be on for this weekends run, but I can’t wait to get them under the Jeep!

I’m about ready to spring for a set of AGM sliders too...my Brute sounds like angry mice when I’m cruising slowly...

When you spend that much on a set of COs, I wish that they would have been included from the beginning.

The ultimate would be having access to a set of race scales :brows: You could extrapolate the weight of the axles/wheels/tires out from there.

Preach

I'm really glad I just did these right off the bat. Especially since I don't feel the need to take mine back off to change the springs out. Got lucky there.

I was thinking that while the springs are off and the frame up on jack stands you could weigh each end of each axle, then add the tire and wheel weight to get the unsprung weight at each corner.
Then weigh the fully assembled rig on each corner.

How tempted are you to try and get this done? Congrats!

Very. But I am two AGM sliders short, I’m trying to track those down now. Both the front and rear lower shock mounts will clear. The rear track bar mount is going to be tight. The rear upper mounts look straight forward. My brake lines are already done. The front looks like a pain because of how tight it is, But not terrible. The risk is if something doesn’t go right and I need to have my fabricator get involved, then I’d miss the run.

Regardless, I’m putting the longer sway bar links on tonight.

It’s an easy install honestly. Also, I hardly ever get squeaks from my coilovers. If they do I just spray them with lube and they don’t make noise anymore. I was thinking about going to agm but I don’t see the point

Whew. I’m glad there are some positive reports on not going AGM. I can’t keep bleeding money!

You screw this trip up and you would be mud to us all. Put the pretty toys away till you get home 🤣

It's not a hard install but I'd wait. Starting the install is something an impatient SOB like myself would do then screw something up or something not go right & then I'm screwed & miss the run. It's not like you're wheeling is gonna suck this weekend without them. we're gonna have a ball! Plus no sense installing and then taking a couple back off to install the AGM's if they don;t get there in time.
