The build of Big Red (Knuckles)

Next was tires. They had to be a good all-terrain tire that was aggressive looking. As you can tell from my post above that I went with the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Kevlar. From my little knowledge and research I did on Quadratec and other sites it was a good tire. Excellent in the snow and rain (good for us NE folk) and in the mud and on the rocks as well.

What size MTRs were those?

After multiple trips to Rausch creek on the spacer lift and the 32" tires I knew I needed to do more to the jeep. I was hooked! I knew I needed some way to help me get unstuck if I ever did. So a winch and bumper combo was next! When looking around I didn't like the looks of full with front bumpers. I wanted to get away from it so a stubby was the only way. Also I made sure that I would retain my factory fogs. I ended up going with the rugged ridge stubby. This stubby was a build it your way set up with many configurations which is why I liked it. Then picking a winch was next. I ended up going with the Quadratec Q9000. All I knew is that it was a great price and per reviews it was a very strong winch. The winch was very rarely get used but I figured its great to have.

What are your thoughts on this winch? Wanting a winch bad but I can't spend the money on a $1000+ dollar winch.

Steve and I have the same winch, but I have synthetic. Never had issues on either one so far and they have been good affordable winches. The steel line can be a pain, but dont have to worry about it like I do with synthetic.

Thanks for the input!! I appreciate it!

I have the Quadratec 9500i with the synthetic line and I love it, it has worked flawlessly each and every time and you can't get a better value for your money.

Sorry my boat was underway and I couldn't respond.

As hinrich and the other guy said its a decent winch for the cost. It's one of the cheapest on the market. You basically getting a Chinese winch tho just like superwinch and the like. For the money and how little I have used it it's a good buy.

So I got a big internal debate going on. Should I get bolt on coilovers or plush rides with king 2.5's? I'm leaning towards the plush rides with kings but it's hard to not want the coilovers. Any thoughts?

If I can offer any advice, in my 2 Jeeps I've built before my JK I never got what I Really wanted. Get what you want the first time and build it the way you want it built. If you know you really want coilovers then do it. If you know you'd rather stay on a seperate coil spring setup then do it! My JK has been the Jeep I finally decided to nut up or shut up.
Edit : That's why I've ended up with set of King CO's in my garage. Afterall, I'm building a race car right?

Bolt on coilovers, the ride is about the same but the coilovers offer you so much more down travel and adjustability to dial the suspension in exactly how you want it. And they look great too!

Id say you cant go wrong either way. To me the biggest performance advantage of the coilovers is when running at speed, which you dont see much of in this part of the country. There is a definate coolness factor thought, but they arent cheap either. If i had the money, id do coilovers just because the performance is there if you need it. On the other hand, i promise the plush ride coils wont disappoint with a nice set of shocks if you go the traditional route.

Yea coilovers are what I want but the thing that steers me away from them is the difficulty of getting them rebuilt, finding a place to recharge them with nitrogen if needed, and when I do get them rebuilt not having a jeep to drive for X number of days when it's my only transportation currently. The only reason I think that the plush rides and kings would be better is that I could have spare shocks around for when they needed to be rebuilt.

Yea I know they are kind of pointless out here because I would only use about 70% of there intended use. My end goal is to be out west where j would use 100% of them lol

Coil overs. You'll feel your suspension everyday and when your on the trail you'll appreciate it even more. When you do have to rebuild, it'll be a while down the road, you may have a second car or just rent something cheap for a couple days. Build it once and build it right I say 😄✌🏻

Very true. A lot of the pros do outweigh the cons. Looks like I might be ordering some rear coilovers this week then the fronts in a few weeks after ;)
