The Adventures of Fiona - '08 JK Rubicon 2-Door

Since I'm adding to this thread, I should also update with the little stuff...

I relocated my CB antenna because the tailgate bracket was breaking. Ignore the tennis ball - it's only temporary for testing.

I also picked up a new mount from Jeep Uniq that holds my handheld radio and gave me another mic mount for the ham radio setup that was so generously provided by Clearskies.

I have yet to install it, but it's a Yaesu FT-8900 quad band. Awesome setup with a remote head for flexible mounting. I'm currently studying to take the ham operator tech test so I can start really playing around with this stuff.

Wow, that looks super simple. I might have to pick one of those up. I just clip the mic onto the seat cover now, and it doesn't work out great. I wheel with some chatty mofos so it usually just ends up in my lap.

It's awesome. They have it for all years of the JK and are releasing one for the JL soon. They customize them with color accents and cut them for the radios you are going to use it with. Very cool... Small business out of AZ that's just getting going.

You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to it! A year in the making!

Hey, did you ever modify your front bumper to eliminate the rubbing it did you just let your tires self clearance themselves? [emoji41]

I trimmed the bumper and that helped but didn’t eliminate the rubbing. After that I found some 6” synergy springs on CL and swapped them in for my 4.5” springs. Added another 1.5” of bump stop and some shock mount extensions. That eliminated all the rubbing and also leveled the Jeep.

Shit, that thing must look like a monster now! Gonna have to go to 40s to fill up all that space! 🤣

Lookin good!! It will be nice to hear you on the Ham bands!!

Well there’s no longer any rubbing on the bumpers or fenders, so that’s nice. With the shock extensions I didn’t loose any suspension travel. The front is a little higher than I’d like, but it really hasn’t been an issue around here. I popped a few wheelies in Moab though. [emoji16]IMG_0666.jpg

She does like to wave! 🤣

Do you have the space for longer shocks?

I don’t know. I’d have to measure I guess. I still have the Bilsteins that I got when I put the lift on. I think they are for a 3-5” lift. My lift was originally 4.5” front and back, so they were fine. With the 6” coils on the front, I added some 2” shock extensions. I actually have slightly too much down travel now. I slightly dislodged a coil in Moab. May have to get some coil retainers or limiting straps.

Gotcha... Get some retainers or straps and when it comes time for new shocks you can probably get longer ones and lose the extensions, then. 👍

While replacing the rear axle shafts today, I decided to start making room for her new 37s...

Happy to see the fenders put to use. Should give you some good clearance.

BTW, you know a big brake kit is now necessary, right? [emoji51][emoji857]

Productive day... Got the new axle shafts installed, rear fenders swapped out, and wheel wells blacked out.

Took her for a test drive and no more engine codes, most of the vacuum leaks that I had been hearing are gone, and NO MORE SQUEAKING from the rear end!

Ordered new shocks... Another set of 9000s. Needed longer ones for the front and since I don't know how long they've been in, I went ahead and got new rears as well. Also ordered some wheel spacers just in case.
