Yup... Golden sabers, they bowed to political bullshit calling the talons "cop killers". Reminds me of the FN 5-7...... Have several unopened cases of black talons just cause they were so hated, and a good performing bullet ( on gelatin )

"Winchester discontinued the Black Talon line completely in 2000. The “Ranger SXT” ammunition sold later by Winchester is very similar to the Black Talon though without the black Lubalox coating on the bullet. Among shooters, a running joke is that SXT stands for “Same eXact Thing", though the official branding is “Supreme eXpansion Technology”. However, there are differences in the anatomy of the bullets which become apparent when carefully examined side by side. The hollow point cavity dimensions and angles of the meplat were altered to enhance reliability of expansion, though the basic "reverse taper" design pioneered by the Black Talon was retained. This "reverse taper" refers to the bullet's jacket being thicker at the tip than toward the base, enhancing rigidity which allows the sharp petals to remain largely perpendicular to the wound path, unlike traditional designs where the expanding jacket petals would peel back almost completely behind the expanded lead mushroom. This difference is obvious after firing into ballistic gelatin. In 2007 Winchester updated their Ranger SXT line and renamed it Ranger T-Series. Besides further dimensional changes to the hollow point for reliable expansion, the distinctive perpendicular petals were made longer yet more rounded at the tips to retain stiffness."

The story of my life. Close, but no cigar. I stopped carrying them years ago. Speer Gold Dot now, but I like the Hornady Critical Defense better.

I've been carrying Gold Dot as well. I haven't shot the Critical Defense...I will give them a try.

The Critical Duty is something to consider too. Also know that the Critical Defense and Zombie Max are the same round.

I am carrying the Critical Duty in .45ACP and 9mm (no choice). Pretty confident in the .45s have shot them through gel (who really knows how accurate that is, but it seems to be the standard), plywood, glass, and sheet metal (car doors).... carries through very well. stays intact and opens up nicely...
It all that I am using in my carry/duty handguns right now.... well except when I carry a .44mag - only run glaser safety slugs in that caliber just to try and prevent over penetration (here cum the gay jokes).

I want to get a rifle, like the old ones I like the looks.

If you like the looks of the older rifles, you are a little late for the great deals. What was affectionately known as "the golden age" of the C&R rifles is long over. There are still good deals to be had, but the days of $100 dollar Mosin's and SKS's are over.
As for the damage to your wallet, you will have to be more specific. What type of rifle, caliber, condition, and collect ability will all factor in. Tell us what you fancy, and we can give you a better idea.
