i was talking with a local shop who did a ls3 swap. asked them how much and they told me but also said its not CA smog legal... said he knows 3 others having issues getting their LS swaps passed thru CA.
has anyone else heard this being an issue for CA residents?
Can’t get a 6.0 to pass smog in California. It’s a truck engine. Need a 5.3 or a 6.2 from a car (eg camaro).
An LS3 isnt a 6.0, nor a truck engine?
You lost me; unless your comment was just "in general" and not directed at Dirtrider?
Can’t get a 6.0 swap to pass smog in California. It’s a truck engine. Wrong GVWR class. Need a 5.3 from a 1/2 ton or SUV (eg Tahoe) or a 6.2 from a car (eg camaro).
Is you live in California or some other communist state that believes they’re saving the planet with this dumbass logic, then you’re correct.
For the rest of us that live in states that love puppies, semi-automatic weapons with no ammo capacity restrictions, and women with big tits, the L96 is a great fucking engine that has a lot of power.
No offense to Californians, I loved it when I was stationed there. Beautiful scenery and great people, but shitty government.

I'm pretty sure the GMC envoy or suburban might have used the 6.0 and they are still classified as light duty truck like the Jeep. The Tahoe definitely works though. Can’t get a 6.0 swap to pass smog in California. It’s a truck engine. Wrong GVWR class. Need a 5.3 from a 1/2 ton or SUV (eg Tahoe) or a 6.2 from a car (eg camaro).

And after actually looking stuff up I guess the envoy didn't come with 6.0

I'm technically supposed to retain all emissions here as well but I decided to register it outside of testing zones. Still going to run muffler but probably no cat , no egr, no evap.Same in California. Donor engine must be from car that’s same year or newer than the vehicle you’re putting it in. Plus, need to retain all original emissions gear from donor. So a swap in California is doable, just more complicated than other places.

At the rate TX politics is going, they are about 10 years from where CA is now. Sad to say for the state I was born & bred in... and one of the main reasons I GTFO.![]()
