Reviving an old CJ7

Rent or buy a block tester for and accurate diagnosis. Good luck. Hope it's not that though.

Combustion tester came today.


Tested it on CJ7 twice and negative each time (should stay blue)


Double checked it by doing the breath test and shod be green and is


So ... At least the head gasket seems to be intact.

?- is this a good test to use?
?- what next ?? New Fuel injection, wrap headers, ??

Mechanic says definitely a blown head gasket/cracked block

After struggling with a diagnosis. Finally broke down and took the morphodite to my mechanic.
He says:
"There is combustion gases in the cooling system. Most likely head gaskets. Goes up in temp very quick from cold. HC's in the cooling system. Recommend rebuild."

So...here goes a couple thousand

Sorry to hear that. Doesn't make sense that the block tester didn't pick that up though. I've had great luck with those things. Is this a trusted mechanic?

He checked it with his and his emissions tester. I've used him for 8 years and always found him to be honest and fair priced.

It finally didn't overheat! Ran it 25 miles and climbed 1000ft and good.

What was wrong with it? Head gasket? Cracked head? Did they ever find out?

Head gasket was blown. Cost me $600 more to get it rebuilt (included warranty [emoji106]).
Runs so much cleaner now

Getting a paint job soon so going to take out roll cage, seats and get ready for painter
