Two reasons:

#1: Lib-Tards are known to continue to do the same dysfunctional thing expecting a different outcome. (See all the blue cities, socialism, communism, gun control, et. al)

#2: This is no longer just about Trump, this is about sending a signal to anyone who would consider challenging the Perma-Party. They are making an example out of him. If you attempt to join the club without kissing the ring and swearing fealty they will crush you- even if you’re a billionaire. Don’t kid yourself, this same situation would have been applied to Ross Perot or a third party candidate.
