My JKU (Low Budget, Slow Build)

I feel like my little build must seem like a joke to most of the other members.
I'm just a regular working smoe with a small budget and a wife who won't let me get crazy with the credit cards (lucky for me, lol), I appreciate your comments.

Your build is definitely not a joke, in fact it is how the greater majority of us do it. In fact some would think I was completed retarded for making the choices to do with out a lot of daily necessities for almost two years while saving for my suspension and axles. Most guys that I have met through two JK Experiences I have participated in were just awesome, down to earth people. That's the great thing about Offroaders, we all get what it is you are doing :rock:

First half of my Teraflex Budget Boost is going smoothly, just over two hours and got the 5100's in too. Taking a little break. My buddy says the rear end is easier (quicker).

Edit: I didn't use the shock extensions. They're up for grabs if any one could use them.

Its amazing how the look of the jeep changes with just the wheel spacers, specially if you don't have real wide tires. The wheels fill out the wells and just looks good.

Can't wait to see what your JKU looks like with the lift and spacers! Keep the pics comin! :thumb:
 
The builds lookin great. Let me know how your ride quality is after the lift, im lookin to do the teraflex spacer lift myself but its still not in my budget yet : (. Good luck : )
 
Finally done. Rear end took us about an hour and a half. Then we took it for a ride so everything seated right.

I know I need better tires, but I'll be keeping the same wheels. I may powder coat them, maybe not though.
 
lookin real good!! i'd just leave the wheels as is and get new tires. looks like you could fit 35's without too much fuss :thumb:

Definitely glad I got the spacers, it brought the tires out just enough so they're flush with the fenders. It probably would've looked funny without them (and my stock Dueler's look funny enough already!)

My buddy showed my how to figure out my gears by putting the transfer case in neutral, marking the tire and counting the rotations for one full tire rotation. It seems I have 4.10's. It's an '07 Sahara with a tow pkg so it's kinda what I figured on. I don't think I could swing regearing for 35s. That's what I'd really like though. Think it would be a real dog if I went with 35s? I was thinking 33s with full fenders wouldn't look THAT bad?

Oh wow, the ride is way better, but I was running the original shocks with 80k miles on them. I'm sure that's got a lot to do with it.

My brother runs 35s with his gears( either 3.7s or 4.10s), and he does great!!

I run 33s with full fenders it doesn't look horrible, I like it a lot actually. With the 1.5" spacers and 2.5 BB as well.

Oh yeah bro, I saw your jeep on here before. I've gotta admit, that's kind of why I figured it didn't look bad. Hey, maybe I'll run the 35's though. I'll ask around and see how people like 'em on 4.10s. It's too bad you can't test them out before purchasing.
 
Alright, It's barely been 24 hours since I've installed my lift, and I'm already bummed that I don't have better tires. I may have to end up breaking my "No Charging Rule."

Anyway, while waiting for and thinking about that I got such a sweet deal on a CB set up that I can't help but think about that already too.

I got:
The Cobra 75WXST,
Firestik 3ft Firestik ® II,
SPRING SHOCK SS HD UP TO 5,
FireStik K-8R18,
18' Fire-Flex coax cable with Fire-Ring,
and TeraFlex CB Antenna Mount

My buddy installs radio equipment in law enforcement vehicles, and he says I need to grind off some of the paint from the tailgate to get a good ground. Does everybody do that?

Am I just being a wuss about the grinding? Any other options?
 
I have the same mount set up, I just have it mounted in a different spot on the tire carrier. I have never heard of the grinding thing at all. But as long as it is grounded like it supposed to it should work perfectly fine. I have no problems with mine at all. The only thing that I do know is that the top of the firestik should be above the roof to get a good signal but I don't think that would be to much of a problem either tho.

Best way to test it. Just hook it all up and go test it with some friends and see how it sounds.

Yep, sounds like a good plan, I'm sure it won't be a big deal to remove and grind later if I feel I feel I need a better a ground. -Its not that I'm scared of grinding on the paint (I'm planning to add Poison Spyder Body Armor); it just seems so counter-intuitive.

Man, I love the front bumper with winch and fog lights!! I might copy the idea, unless of course you are in Virginia, then I would feel silly if we bumped into eachother at a Meet and Greet!! Everything is coming together!! Keep it up!!

Thanks Damtall55. Go for it; even if we were in the same town, you can personalize it with your choice of winch, fairhead d-rings, etc. But really don't sweat it, I'm in San Diego, California, so you'll be safe (lol). Oh, and they're reasonably priced, too.
