Hood vents, Louvers, Scoops, etc - Engine Bay Heat Issues

Color matched that silver looks damn good!!

I was never really a fan of the bright ass red my jeep is, but the wifey loves it. So the offset of the black and red looks ok. I'll go get some pics.

As far as being purdy vs functional for me it was pure function. After driving for a while in 80-90* temps when you stop at a light for a minute you can see the heat "rolling" out of the hood. IMO it's doing what it should be doing. I've also noticed a drop in intake air temps as well.

I don't know the weight, but AEV is fiberglass not steel. That's one of the things that make the 10th A/Rubicon X hood better is that it's steel.

I just read about it. Yeah, thought it was fiberglass too. Apparently the AEV hood weighs MORE than the OEM hood. (Read the FAQ section about hood flutter)

That sucks. That was going to be one my excuses for getting the AEV hood: To save weight. Now the louvers make even more sense.

I have a 2010 auto - pull a trailer, make several runs during the summer to Moab by way of 1-70, I like the Colorado mountain pass and never had a heating issue (I don't drive slow).

I take all the "stock is crap" chatter with caution, if it were truly an issue I think a redesign would already be in place. unless you're running a v-8 ...then you've got a new beast to care for!

But...I also take care to keep a check on the air cleaner, change the fluids regularly and I do change the coolant each year only because I do drive a lot under various conditions.
 
Anyone use a Trail dash, Bully Dog, or Diablo to see what the temperature difference is before and after adding a ventilated hood?

My Bully Dog shows my air intake being as high as 170 when crawling. Wondering if a ventilated hood would lower that temp.
 
I have. Scangauge II on my dash that keeps track of the air intake temp and I've never seen as high as 190 degrees, and hopefully a vented hood would help reduce that.
 
Well I can tell you from my experience that PSC louvers make a difference.
I live in Dubai and heat is a major concern for me. So anything that helps keep my Jeep cool I will look at.
My A/C definitely runs cooler now and the heat soak dissipates far quicker from under hood when stationary. Whilst driving again a seat of the pants observation feels as cooler air being drawn through so leading to less under hood temp when stopped. No scientific basis to this just a seat of pants observation. BTW I think they look cool even if they don't work lol !

Ok, for ANYONE wondering if these actually work, here is some proof. These pictures (taken from another forum and used by me solely for the purpose of providing information on this subject) were taken with an infrared thermal imager before and after psc louver installation. Read the comment in the picture for an explanation of what you are seeing.

So if you need proof, aside from the many people providing us with their positive experiences with hood louvers, there ya go 👍🍻 Hopefully someone can find this useful.
 
The stock hood is fine. People are fine driving in hot Arizona/Nevada/Texas temperatures. Do you need a louvered hood? That's up to you really. But at least, through reading this awesome thread, people can use the information provided to help make a decision on whether he or she wants a louvered hood or not.

No worries brother, people will find those pics useful as I did when making the decision to cut into their hood or not. I know for a fact that you weren't lying about your experience with the louver, especially being that you are in Dubai! :thumbsup:
