Steve told me about it....

So while eating lunch yesterday, Steve and I started talking about axles and what not for my rig. Thinking about putting my factory front D44 up for sale now since its so low miles and in perfect shape since I still have yet to wheel it, perfect time to get a PR44 fully loaded. How much do you think my stock front can go for? That alone will be the deciding factor on upgrading now, or waiting a while. And......go!

Also thinking about turning the bmw into a pr60 rear...

Just the t-case alone makes the Rubi worth it. If he is able to sell his stock axle it will be nice and new for someone in need of something just ever so slightly better than the d30.

Most of the full sets that I've seen have gone for about 4K. I've seen a few fronts on CL for about $2500.

As for the rear, do you have a 3rd car? That's the only problem I see with that.

Edit: I would definitely go down the path of selling both and getting a PR44/60 combo. :yup:

Cool thanks thats what I needed to know, I would probably only be selling the front and just keeping the stock rear for a while till I need to upgrade. The bmw is more of a toy than anything and not a good daily driver anymore. I need to make up my mind on what to do with it cuz If I dont end up racing it, I dont see keeping it cuz its a little much for the street and too easy to speed with.

The only problem for the rear that we discussed is with state inspections. As we both sit now in stock axles we are close to failing inspection unless we go to friends to pass us. If he went full width we would have to see what else needs to be done in order to pass or if a simple fix like mud flaps would do the trick.

Just move to NJ. You pretty much pass as long as your exhaust doesn't leak before the cat and your check engine light isn't on lol. Also, inspection is free. That's one of the few nice things about NJ haha.

Sorry for the hijack, but do you really think so? I really wrestled with this issue when I bought mine and I went with the Sport since I was tearing everything out anyways. I agree the t-case ratio difference is significant, but man, there's a $10k difference. Other than the t-case & electronic disconnect, is it really worth it? Selling both axles at $4K (if you can even get that) gets you down to $6k difference, but an atlas t-case is only $3K (hah - funny - only $3k!) so why not go the Sport route & build from there? IDK, this is probably an issue for another thread if there isn't already one....

Sell the BMW and buy the PR60 and a beater to run around in. Easy to say that but it is kinda handy having an econo car to buzz around in that gets over 16 mpg!

Curious as to the axle width you are considering. Are you looking to upgrade to 40's at some point? What is the advantage of going wider than stock if not? I kicked this around when I bought my combo but just decided to go with stock widths as I never saw myself going that route. Maybe if I would do a LS/Hemi swap, but that elevates to a whole new level..

Man readying stuff like this makes me love Georgia. Just about everything is legal on the road down here.

Well I never really planned on swapping axles or anything else really on this one just like my 2 door, so it made sense to get another rubi. Also some of the extra things they come with help like power windows and all that junk.

funny part is the bmw is my beater for the most part lol. I will stick with stock width due to being in pa, someday I would like to go to 40s however which almost would make me want to wait and just do 60s now.

If I move anywhere it would be out west. Didnt know jersey was that easy tho.

Yeah PA sucks for just about everything anymore. We are lucky to get by with our tires sticking out from cops, but inspections are another story.

Noone in NJ really drives lifted vehicles and honestly most of them are cops. They don't really care too much. Ive been pulled over twice in my jeep and both of the times the cop wanted to know what i had on my jeep bc he really liked it and he was trying to decide what to put on his. Inspection is a joke. As long as you dont have a check engine light and you have a muffler, you pass. I passed in my old ranger that had a 3 inch hole in my muffler all the way through both sides. I pulled over while in line, wrapped some duct tape around the hole and hurried and got through before it melted. The inspector even saw it and giggled at me. If your really that concerned about it, almost every mom and pop repair shop will take a 50 dollar bill and hand you your sticker without even seeing your car.

Yeah even worse than that - for the most part we cant even buy a 6-pack of brew anywhere but a bar or by the case at the distributor! :grayno:

We can get 12 packs around here at distributors now, and our local grocery stores have found a way around the law and now sell beer is a separate section which is nice. I wish we could just get it anywhere tho like most other states.

Yup I just picked up a 12 pack of sly fox the other day. Also the local wegmans and some Giants have a build your own 6 pack section.

In your case since you planned on ripping everything out anyway then no it's not worth it but for the people that only want to replace the front axle I think the Rubi is still worth the cost. If I knew anything about jeeps back when I got mine I prob would have gotten a Rubi.

Yeah, I've seen some beers are available as 12's now and our Giant Eagle Market Districts have 6's. They are a little far between tho. I know Sheetz & Wawa have been fighting for 6's for a while...still, it'd be nice to be treated as grownups like the other states. Stupid Blue Laws....

I thought it would have went through when sheetz was pushing hard for it, but our politicians dont like to vote for anything it seems (i dont know much but this is what I am told).

Hell some states even have drive through stores. I asked my friend how it worked and she said they put it in your trunk which makes sense. I guess just like everything they dont see the extra money being spent worth it :idontknow:
