The wife and I attended the Idaho State 4X4 Rally sponsored by the Snake River Off-Roaders in Idaho Falls Idaho over the Fathers Day week-end. I went on three runs with the group and should have not gone on the "extreme" Falling Rocks run. It was in the boulder patch downstream from the Teton Dam "failure" where the earthen dam fractured in 1976 and caused a huge flood. They said there were some by-passes of the major obstacles, but one without a by-pass got me. I've been getting by with Mopar side steps, figuring that when they got trashed I would get some frame mounted rock rails. I shouldn't have waited!
So what I got for Fathers Day is the side steps trashed on both sides with the left front quarter panel banged up in the process. It's a good thing I had the doors off on that trail or some of them would have been trashed too. Now I can fix that "and" get the rock rails. I'm trying to decide between LOD and EVO. Leaning to the LOD because my wife is short and needs a good side step to get in the Jeep. Any feed back on rock rails would be appreciated.
Happy Fathers day everyone! Nothing crazy here. Just on my way to a GA for a follow up appt for the PRK surgery I had a few days ago. Everything is a bit blurry so I'm riding shotgun in my wife's Van, aka the domestic urban assault vehicle!
I wish the rest of you a safe and happy father's day. I will be here with my 17 yo son who wrecked his motorcycle on a dirt track yesterday and has several surgeries in his future. He should be good after they are done but will have aftermarket hardware in his scull and removable teeth. He did have a full face helmet on.
Thanks so much Eddie and Cindy! We didn't hit the trails in the Jeep per se, but we did drive the Jeep to some trails for hiking! Muir Woods is amazing and really close for anyone in the Bay Area. Started across the Richmond bridge and got there in no time!
A little wildlife and some exploring
Some pics with mommy
And Daddy
And of course the Redwoods
Hope all you other Dads had a great day and hopefully you got to see your kids even if only via FaceTime
Our Ocala HardRock Father's Day disaster.
Drove 1.5 hours to get there. Disconnected, met Bonedaddy and his family (awesome people by the way). Drove into the park. Did this....
Then drove 30 feet around the corner and decided to put my passenger side in this.
Got stuck, heard a loud pop from the passenger side front and found out I snapped the u-joint. Found a place in the shade and worked on the jeep for the next 3 hours in 100 degree weather. View attachment 149953
At least the kids had fun.
All back together.
This was the culprit. It doesn't look as bad as it was.
