Here’s an AEV JL on 37s from work, cutting it real close and with a BFG which runs a little small.

Yea those do run small as shit, so id definitely doubt it. By the looks of that be hard to get a real 37 like a Nitto on there

If you want to carry extra fuel on the outside of your 392 I would go with the EVO tire carrier For fuel on the inside go with the jugs D-Day recommended. I used something similar in my ‘78 CJ-5 and they were bullet proof. I would usually wrap a trash bag around them for a little extra fume mitigation.
I will say I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve felt the need to refuel off of the cans on the JK- and that was mostly because I did not want to be ‘That Guy’ who ran out. Having extra fuel does give peace of mind and even if you can only carry a few gallons that’s 20-30 miles you won’t need to walk!

Didn’t you just put a roof rack on? Get a rotopax mount and put them up there when you need them.

Yea for sure, but I’ll be bring the roof top tent for some of it, which takes up the whole thing. But when I’m not ill definitely do that.

If you do go with the EVO mount, then another option would be to use the Roto-Pax strap .. basically a big ratchet strap with two roto-pax mounts around the spare.

I'm almost finished with a 4 gal Rotopax mount that fits on a Teraflex tire carrier. The Teraflex tire carrier has hardpoints for accessories like a jack and other things. I removed the jack mount that I wasn't using and fabricated this mount plate that accepts the Rotopax mounts. It's not quite finished yet, but even without welding it together it's functional.

Are you able to open the tailgate fully without hitting the taillight?
Yes. That was part of the design requirements. Because of that, I had to relocate the lower rotopax butterfly mount to the middle position of the tank. The butterfly mount itself was interfering with the tail light. It's really tight. Below, is the modified mount plate alone as it sits now. Next week, I'll weld it up and gusset it.
If you are one of those that like the flush Oracle tail lights, they will buy you some additional room. Probably enough to keep the lower mount.

I’m probably averaging around 11-12 mpg. So full to totally empty that like 240 miles
Just be careful when coming off of big ledges. I've seen where the corner of that rotopax catches and takes out the rear window on a hard top.

I wonder if the recently reintroduced hitch stinger might help with that?
It would if the rotopax were in the middle of the spare as that's what the stinger protects. Being that it's mounted on the corner, it would not.

I have a 392 as well and very much value having extra gas with out of state trips. I’ve enjoyed the LOD bumper and tire carrier. Regarding the gas I can fit up to 8 gallons (gas and/or water) on the carrier and haven’t had any issues. Being nit picky with this set the 2 stacked on the left get in the way of the rear door handle, but other than that it’s rock solid and a nice add on.
