Do Yourself a Favor - Regear Your 2012-Up JK!!

Need some advice please: My budget won't yet allow me to regear my 2012 auto JKU w/ 3.73's, but I want to skip the 35's and go 37's. Here is what I plan on doing:

37 Toyo OC or Nitto Trailgrapplers
3.5 Metalcloak ARB lift
Chopped fenders
C gusset and sleeve the D30

Living in AZ and not doing any rock crawling, but some normal trails, can I wait to regear for about 6 months? Been stressing about this for weeks on end so any help appreciated.

I wouldn't do it. It'll be searching for gears a lot. I would wait until you save up some more.

35's and 5.13 at 70 sits right around 2800-3000 for me. Keeping it between 60-65 seems to be a sweet spot.

Thanks man, sorry should have mentioned I am on 37s, I see the calculator works it out to around 2800. That's not too bad I reacon I can do 65mph :D

Hmmmm  maybe that is the way to go, what RPM you sitting on when you doing 70-75mph with the 4:88s

Yup, trying to decide this myself. Seems like 4.88 would be better for DD, 5.13 better for wheeling. Mine is a DD now, but no longer a DD when I pay it off in a few years.

you see mine is not my DD but our trails are far and wide and we do, do a bit of highway travel to get there, this is turning into a bit of a mission to decide now

Those who has done the 5:13 regear on their 3.6, what RPM are you sitting at on about 70 to 75mph

2014, JKUR, 3.6 auto, 37's and 5.13's, running about 2700-2750 revs at 70mph. Love the 5.13's, seems to keep me in OD more than not at highway speed, no gear searching.

what the deuce! I have been reading what is recommended to be done from everyone's experiences and I have learned that when lifting and going to bigger tires new ds/s are highly recommended. from reading all this it looks like most of all the questions are either for an automatic or for running 37's. so I guess now my question is, having bought a new 14 jk sport 2dr with the 6sp, I bought and waiting for the 3in enforcer kit and got the 1310's to replace the stock ones, with the procal to reprogram and exhaust spacer kit(which Northridge is awesome and used my wayalife 10% !!). and will be running 315's on 17 alloys. what would be better recommended for a manual? would it be who of me to go out and get the 4.88's? this is my DD and my weekend trail runner. craziness!

4.88 seems to be the consensus

I won't know for another month :)

But from what I've read for the 3.6L, that will put it real close to what the RPM's are for my current set up which sits at about 2500 RPM @ 75mph.

Why DS and the exhaust spacer?

Being that you have a 14 and a 2-door, you will not only need to address your front drive shaft, but your rear as well. Exhaust spacers are totally unnecessary as your new front shaft will be narrow enough that they will not be needed. I would return them. With 3" of lift or more, your factory rear shaft will sit in a constant state of pinch and that will lead to premature joint failure. Before that happens, you will see grease spitting out from the CV boots. At that time, you really should replace the rear shaft as well and when you do, you will need adjustable rear upper control arms to set your rear pinion angle. Being that you are getting an Enforcer kit, I would recommend getting a set of Currier rear upper arms as they are a good match. As far as gear ratio goes, 4.88 should do the trick with 37's on a manual but, I personally might still go with 5.13's just to get a bit more power.

Yeah....Ive been wondering about the ECO...I have a 2013 sport so ghat means a D30...I want to find the right gearing for 35's and then 37's later which will put me back into ECO ON range...I am typically cruising 60
-70....and want to find the right ratio to eek out slightly better mpg.

well i guess ill be sending back the spacer kit. guess i over read the need for it with the new front d/s and also i have both replacement d/s for it will not be swapping out just the front. and again. we are talking 37's and i know everyone wants to go bigger at some point and doing it the way you invision it the first time will save money. but im sure as it being my DD and 35's will keep me very happy for a while. well till my pockets recover and get sewn back up. so would it be better to run 4.88 with 35's as well?
