Critter Tread - Trapping

He's been at that tree 3 nights in a row. Better odds than once a week like the previous duo. Giving the dead chicken a face tonight just to see what happens.

Interesting that they are attracted to toys. Wonder if they would actually play with it like a dog would. I’ve seen video of mountain lions, deer, bear, all playing with different objects like a cat or dog would.

There's been studies done that pretty much prove canines can see blue and yellow better than other colors.

I saw a trapper on YouTube that puts blue vet tape around a stick and pounds it in the ground at the back of the trap set with good success. They grab it but can't pull it out, keeping them at the trap longer.

And many stories online of coyotes coming into yards and stealing dog toys.

The very first night I put one out last year, a possum grabbed it and ran off with it. After the 2nd time, I wired it down. I'm willing to try whatever lol.

Take that fucker out.
Looks like it was just passing through. That wood line it goes to is the property line to about 100 acres of hay field. We heard them the night we butchered the pig but that was the first time since the floods. Debating a trap or two but I really don't have time to tan hides.

If you put a trap in, it could turn into a full time job of non target animal bullshit. Possums/coons/skunks. Remake, remake, remake. But if you keep seeing/hearing them, they won't be leaving. I don't even have farm animals and they hang around. I don't understand their ways but they aren't welcome. Supposedly they weren't even present east of Mississippi until the 1960s.

Coyotes are pretty amazing and really fun to hunt.

When I lived in central TN in the early 1990’s a lot of old timers did not believe there were coyotes in the state at that time and that they would not be coming because of the Mississippi River. Of course they were present and they had simply walked over the bridges on the river and took up residence.

There are some interesting theories about coyotes along the US east coast having wolf DNA but I have not heard anything about that lately.

Coyotes have greatly expanded their range and are in every US state but Hawaii and Alaska. They haven’t made the swim to Hawaii- yet, and they cannot compete with the wolves in Alaska.

Another set. Kitty has a squeaker backpack. This is a game trail and very close to where I got the 2nd yote in October. I only have 2 of the big traps (Duke 650) and they have a much bigger pan for surface area. That's what I put here.
