I love newer and better suspension setups, but seeing that shot of the ass end coming off almost made me cry. I just love the old school look of a CJ5. Now there is one less...

Got some more work done tonight. Took the rear axle out. My garage keeps getting smaller. My goal is to be working on the new rear axle next week. I bought 50' of 2" .120" wall DOM today also.

Cut some of the frame off, some more might need to go depending on where the new control arm brackets go. More of the tub is going to get cut as well.
. I'm rethinking my transfer case, not sure I like how much it's clocked. I'm really thinking about springing for an atlas.

Problem with the old CJs is they are so short.
Another transfer case may not fit due to length issues and where your rear axle ends up. Atlas is nice and strong
Also, where are you getting your fabrication parts?

Unfortunately I chose one of the shortest CJs. I'm going to stretch the wheel base to 110", most if not all will be in the rear. I want the Atlas so it will raise my front yoke and give me more clearance for the belly skid plate and it's an Atlas.
My trusses and brackets are form artec. My heim joints, control arm DOM and diff covers are from ruffstuff. My role cage DOM is from a local shop. All my axle parts have been from summit and Northridge.

I cut up the old tub to take to the scrap yard and started to mock up the rear axle.

You worried about that old frame holding up to the big axles and tires?
I broke the frame on my old CJ5 in 1989. That metal has aged a bit since then

No, it's going to be a tube chassis with the frame as somewhere to start from. I'm using 2" X .120 wall DOM

I bent the rear lower hoop.
. I need to get a more accurate angle finder. I was about a degree off o. The second bend. Pretty good for my first piece though.
