Drivable or is that a tow truck I see?
It probably was drivable until the tow truck bent the wheel and tie rod rolling it back over and pulling it up the bank. Plus it sat upside down for about 2 hours so I wanted the fluids changed before driving it.

Sad thing is it wasn't even really offroading... The wife was turning around in a gravel parking lot on the side of a river/creek and the bank gave way under her rear wheels and over it went.

Yes and no. If you're running really big tires and a dropped pitman arm, maybe. But, you'd really be better off running a ram assist. We weren't running one at the time of the break and still don't now as I really don't think that a brace would have made a difference for us. We're justpushing really big, wide and heavy 40x15.50 tires and it really was more a matter of time for us than anything. Running a PSC ram assist help prevent it from breaking for a long time but, everything breaks sooner or later. I'm just glad that Mel had a spare with him and, we now carry one too. :yup:



Yeah, I see so many of them them too. And, for most people, it probably won't matter but, if they actually played as hard as they say they do, it is something that should be taken into consideration.

Would it be possible for you or someone to share the steps in a sector shaft replacement based on your trail experience in swapping that one out? What spare parts would you / do you now tote with you? Just the shaft? I've honestly never contemplated a sector shaft swap on the trail? Can't remember if there's a dedicated trail repair thread or not?

If you have the money, I personally would just get a new PSC Big Bore XD steering box as there's no way that thing is going to break. Otherwise, if you have the room, you'd be better off carrying a replacement steering box as it'd be a lot easier to just do a swap on the trail. Of course, for the cost, you'd be better of just getting a new PSC steering box. The only sector shaft that you can get your hands on and replace is one for a Delphi steering box - basically, a 2007-09 JK. This replacement shaft will NOT fit a 2010-up China box. Also, when a shaft breaks, the broken edge will most likely be flared enough to prevent it from being removed without a LOT of work. Trust me, I've been there and done that and more than once and wish I had better options available to me at the time.

Not my rig but this was definitely my finest trail repair. He annihilated everything in the driver front trying to do an obstacle he had no business trying. 3 hrs later I got him to drive out on his own with no tow.

No off road damage for me, hit a wet patch and the jeep whipped around on me. Snapped the axle, luckily it landed on the wheel/tire, preventing more damage.

Also, pretty much settled the "are spacers safe" debate. I had 2 inch spacers on it and it was still attached strong!

A few weeks ago I broke my tie rod and bent it back under my axle. It destroyed the stabilizer as well. Mild in comparison to some of the other posts. Thankfully the park had a used spare and I was able to drive it home. Lesson learned... I'll keep this spare tie rod in the Jeep for future wheeling trips. IMG_1331.jpgIMG_1330.jpg

Noticed my steering seemed super stiff and acted like it was sticking. I think my stabilizer is done for. Took it off so I could drive it until a new one shows up. Death wobble is fun lol.

After hearing the sounds that these scuffs made I know why Eddie puts music in his videos and these are lightweight scuffs compared to some from west coast trails.

Caught a rock under the car, it smashed the exhaust downpipe collector up into the oil pan and into the crank and rod caps.

First step was to pull the downpipe back into position.

Ouch. Did the oil pan actually breach or just bend? As in, did you lose any oil?
