Birth of Phoenix

Also, 100 yds into the trail, the 4 runner that was with us broke in the mud. We couldn’t see what had happened so we decide to winch the front up with the FJ and take at look. It had appeared that the lower ball joint broke. We decided to tow it backwards off the trail back to the staging area. IMG_0920.jpgIMG_0923.jpgIMG_0922.jpgIMG_0924.jpgIMG_0925.jpg
After further inspection we realized that the nut came off the lower ball joint and it had popped out. There should have been a cotter pin holding it on. Silver lining is that it happened on the trail and not the freeway. IMG_0928.jpgIMG_0929.jpg Luckily we had a trailer that we brought for the FJ. So we loaded it up and head ed back out on the trail. Sucks for him. I always try to check my fasteners every 3 months. IMG_0992.jpgIMG_0993.jpg There’s a sweet video of us pulling him out on instagram. @harsh_customs

Great pictures, and it looks like a nice trail ride.

You have rocks, trees, mud, snow, breakdowns, recovery, and all participants make it out, though one on the stretcher.

Sounds like good fun to me.

Wow, nice pictures. Looks like a great time!

Thanks! Sorry for missing your comment a couple weeks ago but yes, he did throw a rod and put a couple holes in the oil pan. Lots of coolant came out so I don’t know if he blew a head gasket bad enough that it filled his cylinder and hydro locked it. He hasn’t torn it apart yet.

Wife surprised me with this when I got home. I’ve wanted one for awhile now. The family is now starting to get into camping. The challenge is that we bring so much stuff. My goal is to being to pack everything into the Jeep since we will be getting rid of the Silverado soon. It’s going to be tough. IMG_1104.jpg
Also here’s some pictures from our camping trip to Mt St Helens on Memorial Day weekend. IMG_1069.jpgIMG_1082.jpgIMG_1083.jpgIMG_1094.jpgIMG_1100.jpg

I’ve been working on installing my fridge which included installing another battery. I ended up trying to reinvent the wheel and locate the battery somewhere other than the engine compartment but it the end, it made more sense to mount it in the engine bay. I purchased a dual battery setup from MORE. Install wasn’t too bad. IMG_1241.jpgIMG_1242.jpgIMG_1243.jpgIMG_1244.jpg
The worst part was trying to figure out where to put my PSC reservoir since real estate is a premium in that location. After an hour or two removing it and just staring at the engine compartment, I ended up putting it back where it was. I didn’t think it was going to fit but it did in the end. IMG_1245.jpg
I’ve been researching how to set the batteries up and I think I will probably go with the solenoid approach. There are fancy setups out there that automatically charge the house battery and disconnect it when required but I’m just going to stay simple and cheap for now.

I have a day trip tomorrow so I really wanted to get the fridge in so I just wired up both batteries for the time being. This isn’t my finished product. But it’s in and it works. IMG_1250.jpgIMG_1254.jpg

Went to Tahuya today. I invited a few co workers who had some stock Jeeps and had never taken them out yet. All together we had 12 vehicles. It was a fun day and hopefully a few caught the bug. Looks like a fun trip and glad to see you got the fridge set up. That battery system looks pretty good.
