Average TJ Build

Rinsed all the dirt off and switched it over to winter. Rewired the remote start system, I unhook it in the summer as it tends to parasite the battery. Gave it a good vacuuming, threw the backseat back in it, went through the emergency and recovery supplies. Then drank a beer. Cheers.

Just one??

Sorry to disappoint ☹️

Currently me and my Jeep are fighting. I keep buying her presents to make her feel better but she still hates me, somehow the control arm bolts backed off and the holes on the frame mounts have wallowed out. Don’t get it, it’s been like two years since I took those off I don’t get why now that happened. Oh well. That’ll be fun welding washers on them... [emoji19]

Sounds like even more of a reason for more than one beer.

Wallowed out bolts are not fun. Had a wallowed out axle side track bar mount and it was a pain. Had to get a custom track bar mount made (and got a custom track bar built at the same time, cause why not).

Sounds like a good time/excuse to upgrade to some weld on long arms ;)

Just saw this. What now?
Broke more frame. So sick of that never ending battle. Took a break from the grinding and welding to fix something that’s gonna get me pulled over. Kept having an issue with a tail light that turn/brake only works intermittently and if you smack it it comes back on. Considering the daily barrage of potholes that means the light is out more than 50% of the time. I replaced the bulb. No change. Wiring is fine. Then I threw my hammer through it and did this.

Welded up some more frame. Then thought maybe I’ll just fill the rest with mud and it’ll harden and be structural.

Had a fun little trail ride through the woods, missed peak autumn by a week but still a nice day.

PSA check your transfercase fluid levels once inawhile….

Roasted the 231, went to drain it to check for debris etc. Only about a cup of ATF came out
Now I feel dumb, and need a new transfercase. Preferably with a SYE

That sucks, although if you need a sye anyway, they look easy to rebuild

Yeah, stupidity is always an annoying break to fix. Ah well.

Yeah I’ve looked into the rebuild kits. I can get a used one off a cherokee for half the cost, might just go that route.

Does anyone have experience with the hack and tap sye kits? I don’t really see any difference engineering wise, I’m more than capable of drilling and tapping a hole. Unless there’s a downside I don’t know about?

Who would’ve thought that 6 nuts would be the absolute worst thing I’ve ever done on this Jeep. Literally impossible to get anything better than a small box wrench on these rusted and muddy ass nuts that are seized to the studs. And you can’t fit a hammer up to the top to swing at the wrench. And to top it off Jeep thought that a great way to design a bracket was to block the nuts holding it (and the tcase) on.

End rant. New one in hooked up and filled. Button it up tomorrow and hopefully the little used case is in good shape.
