Average TJ Build

So 5-0 thinks they know who they're after, hopefully that pans out.

In the mean time have still been searching for this damn console latch piece, debating about just cutting one out of steel plate at this point. It seems like I can get a replacement lock tumbler, but none come with the bottom latch piece.

Has anyone ever used this Tuffy inner console addition? thinking if I cant find a replacement latch this unit just slides into the console and bolts through the floor holes and is much more secure.

I would like to add some secured storage to the jeep for soft top season anyways, this just put a higher priority on that plan. Need something that fits a standard sized 1911 and accessories, I've seen the tuffy under seat drawer but don't like the way that it locks/unlocks and isn't actually accessible while sitting in the seat, don't want to have to exit the vehicle to stow and secure it when going to events or other places.

Went wheeling at a local charity event for vets where they build an obstacle course. Had a great time and the real winner are these tires, holy crap these things have grip, ran them probably around 8psi and they grabbed and stuck to things other people were spinning out on. Kept saying, well, let’s see how far I can get before I have to back down, and then it got over it and I kept going haha.

Thought I got out unscathed until I got onto the road and had a pretty violent driveline shake at speed. It got better when I put it into 4 high. I limped it home and got under, no visible damage to anything (besides skid plate 🤣 )
Then I noticed that the rear diff had more oil on it then normal, been leaking at the pinion seal for a year, and sure enough the yoke moves up and down a 1/2”

Took off rear driveshaft and went for a test drive and it’s back to normal no shaking. It’s been time to ditch the 3.07s since I got the 35s anyways so now I have some motivation to do it. Now I just need to decide on keeping the 35 rear or quickly finding something better. Can’t afford lockers now either way. But going to 4.56 also means I need to get a new carrier. So weighing the options of just swapping in an 8.8 or take off 44 or something. I have a zj axle sitting around waiting to donate it’s brakes so I can have rear disc brakes, and that would ‘sort of’ help with the c clip problem of shaft falling out. Not sure what to do at this point.

Use a lighter to minimize any fraying.

Can’t tell if serious or going to light Jeep on fire? 🧐🤨

It’s like 250k on a stock gear set and running the wrong gearing by a lot, I’m surprised that the pinion died first but it’s time was limited for sure anyways. Just now have too many options.

Lol. Yes, serious. Just run a lighter up and down the edge for a couple seconds to burn the fine fibers and it will prevent heavy fraying.
 
Good things come to those who wait? ....and scour craigslist and marketplace. Picked these tj take off 4.10s up within 30 minutes of being posted for a very cheap price.

So I’ll pick up a couple master install kits and slap em in with disc brake swap, and be happy until I find a rock that turns out to be just a little too much.

Turns out that the carrier that came with the used 4.10s was the 35 not the 30 front that I thought it was, which I already had one for a 35 so oh well. Couldn’t put the front gears in. But got the donor Jeep broken down, stole the disc brakes, parking brakes, axle shafts, backing plates and got the rear axle finished with the new 4.10s. Got the ac compressor and idler as well for on board air project later on. Turned out that the problem that caused my issues was bending the skid plate upwards in the middle a bit which pushed the driveline to an uneven pinion angle, causing the vibration and taking out the bearing.. So put in spacers and longer bolts for now and will start watching for sye kits. Also two of the spider gears were missing teeth completely so not sure how long that’s been bad or if those went at the same time. The disc brakes on the rear make a huge difference, it brakes level now instead of nose diving. Parking brake works now for the first time in years. The 4.10 ratio while not exactly what i wanted, is sooo much better and I can use 5th gear on the highway to cruise along at 75, I haven’t used that gear in about 4 years so that’s awesome. Busy and successful weekend. Will find a front carrier and finish the rest in the coming week or two so it can be a 4x4 again.

Got the parking brake adjusted and working. Also took the rotors to work and dropped them in the bead blaster for a few minutes to knock the rust off, not as good as getting them turned butttt it’s free and way better, the pads will wear in the rest just from driving. Wooo baby steps.
