I didn’t but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. I literally don’t know a single person who has, had had or knows someone who’s had China virus. AND, I’ve been spending a LOT of time with old people. This whole this is such BS.

As far as we know now, the recovery rate from Covid is extremely high...that’s the good news. However, it doesn’t mean that it will not affect the quality of your life from that point on...that’s the bad news.

Penn State’s Director of Athletic Medicine just reported that 30%-35% of Big Ten athletes that have contracted Covid have developed symptoms of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle. These are young, in the prime of their life world class athletes...and has ended some of these young people’s athletic careers.

I know some people who have contracted the disease, and one who has died from it. Even with a high rate of survival, many are going to live with compromised respiratory and cardiovascular systems.

I pray that none of you, your family or friends ever have to experience this first hand...

Long before covid there was reported evidence that elite athletes are more susceptible to developing myocarditis than the general population. There are medical studies and papers on this very topic. Without going into the weeds too much, it has to do with how hard they stress their bodies and the absence of sufficient downtime, which then allows viruses and bacteria (that might not be a big deal for other people) to attack their hearts.

The good news is that the myocarditis is not typically permanent. But, sometimes it is and that sucks (whether the myocarditis was caused by something as well-known as covid or by something as seemingly benign as a tick bite).

I would be remiss if I didn’t also point out that anabolic agents, diuretics, and other sports “doping” practices also significantly increase the risk of myocarditis.

I’m not trying to minimize the health impact of covid on some people, but I think it’s important that discussions present the facts in proper context.

I also think it’s important to recognize the substantial negative impact on the quality of the lives of tens of millions of Americans who have been forced below the poverty line because of this mess. That’s a generational impact.

Pontificating about which path is worse is an exercise probably best done over a nice whiskey. 🥃

Agreed...

I was diagnosed with myocarditis in my early 30’s when I was a serious free diving spearfisherman...I was regularly breath holding and spearing fish at 70 feet...I used to donate blood on a regular basis many years ago, and then was denied by staff due to irregular heartbeat...that’s when i went to a cardiologist to have it checked out.

I think it will be many years from now before we really know the true after affects of Covid infection...

Looking forward to that whiskey with you...
